Peugeot E-3008 Debuts As The Electric Variant Of The 3rd Generation 3008

The Peugeot E-3008 shows what mainstream French electric crossovers will look like.

When it comes to left-field crossovers, the Peugeot 3008 has been one of the primary options available to Malaysians for years. It combines avant-garde looks and a reliable modern powertrain in a practical, well-priced locally-assembled package. Today, Peugeot finally showed the third generation model. Instead of giving us the full model line-up, the French brand is starting with the E-3008 all-electric variant. This is to reinforce Peugeot’s commitment to transitioning to full-electric in Europe by 2030. The Peugeot E-3008 will be built at the Sochaux plant in France and be put on sale starting February 2024.

The Peugeot E-3008 is the first model to be built on the STLA Medium platform that’s shared with the rest of the Stellantis conglomerate. Key specifications include up to 700km of range, a quick recharge time of 30 minutes and loads of connected services and functions.

Even the electric version will come with two trim levels – Allure and GT. What’s more, there will be 3 option packs when it comes to performance:

  • 210bhp, 2WD, 525km range
  • 230bhp Long Range, 2WD, 700km range
  • 320bhp Dual Motor, 4WD, 525km range

In terms of design, the Peugeot E-3008 has a distinctive fastback SUV look that helps it achieve a low co-efficient of drag of just Cx 0.28. Key dimensions versus the outgoing Malaysian long wheelbase model are as follows:

  • Length: 4.54m (+0.03m)
  • Width: 1.89m (+0.05m)
  • Height: 1.64m (+0.02m)

The front end features an updated look for the three-claw light signature. The grille is specific to the powertrain variant, so expect a mildly different look for the 3008, which will most likely be a hybrid of some sort.

The front end is defined around the new Peugeot emblem. Pixel LED headlamps with adaptive beams are standard with the new E-3008 with other versions getting regular LED headlamps as standard. Around back, there’s a floating spoiler and the tail light three-claw light signature has been given a 3 dimensional look on the GT variant.

While the outgoing model was pretty generous with its chrome trim, the new E-3008 has eliminated chrome altogether. Instead, you get lacquered parts in Meteor Grey and Orbital Black. 19″ and 20″ wheels with geometric designs are available.

There are six exterior colours, namely Obsession Blue, Ingaro Blue, Okenite White, Pearl Black, Artense Grey, and Titanium Grey. A two-tone gloss black roof is standard on the E-3008 GT. This version also comes with gloss black bumpers, wheel arches, and door sill protectors.

The boot space has shrunk a little from 591L to 520L on this generation. However, the tradeoff is that the cargo volume is not taken up by the battery, so you get the same volume of trunk space regardless of powertrain variant.

Inside, you get treated to the new Peugeot Panoramic i-Cockpit, which comes with customisable ambient LED lighting, aluminium trim, patterned fabric, and a 21″ curved floating panoramic screen. This large screen combines both instrument cluster and infotainment functions and is available on the GT variant. The Allure version gets two 10″ digital screen in a single housing instead.

The compact steering wheel of the i-Cockpit has been revised with a smaller central cushion with a more futuristic floating look. Other improvements incude the new front seat design, which are designed to prevent back pain and wrapped with faux leather and Alcantara or Fabric depending on trim level. These seats can be fitted with adaptive side bolsters that fit the occupant’s body shape. There’s also an advanced air filtration system and a high-quality Focal Premium Hi-Fi system available.

Will the Stellantis plant in Gurun be retooled to build the new E-3008 or the standard 3008 models? At this point, it’s still unclear as the Peugeot E-2008 has only been teased and not yet launched here yet.
