Chery Omoda 5 Launched In Malaysia From Just RM108,800

Chery Malaysia has set up shop and the Chery Omoda 5 will be their entry product.

After months and months of teasing, Chery Malaysia has finally launched their first two products – the Omoda 5 and the Tiggo 8 Pro.

Chery Omoda 5 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Launch in Malaysia

To convince Malaysian buyers to try the brand out, both SUVs will come with a 7-year/150,000km manufacturer warranty with 5 year free service package (6 intervals, labour covered).

The first 3,000 Chery customers in Malaysia will also get a free 10-year/1,000,000km engine warranty, which is an industry first to our knowledge. This extended warranty will be available as an option for just RM2,000. In this article, we’ll be covering the launch of the Omoda 5.

The Chery Omoda 5 will be available in two specifications – C and H. Both are powered by the same 1.5L TCI 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 156hp and 230Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a CVT with 9 virtual gear ratios. There are two drive modes – Eco and Sport. The front suspension uses MacPherson style struts while the rear suspension is a torsion beam. Front brakes are ventilated discs while the rear gets solid discs. Both models get 6 airbags. 18″ alloy wheels are also standard, but there’s a dual tone finish on the H variant with red highlights.

Other standard equipment on the RM108,800 Omoda 5 C include:

  • Synthetic leather + fabric upholstery
  • 10.25″ infotainment unit
    • wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
    • 6-speaker generic audio system
  • 10.25″ digital instrument cluster
  • 64 colour ambient lighting
  • LED DRLs
  • LED headlamps
  • remote engine start
  • keyless entry
  • 3 USBs including a type-c fast charging port
  • wireless charger
  • dual zone climate control

    • Headlamp Automatic Control

The Omoda 5 H adds the following equipment at RM118,800:

That’s quite a good deal contextually speaking. The Chery Omoda 5 goes up against the Proton X50 and Honda HR-V, two other compact crossovers powered by 1.5L turbocharged petrol engines in the market for around a similar price tag.

Chery are going all-in on the Malaysian market with an extensive CKD programme expected to deliver cars to customers by August 2023 with 20% local content to start. This will be ramped up to 40% local content as time goes on. The Inokom plant has been chosen as the assembly plant. There will be 31 Chery showrooms nationwide to start.

Above is the Omoda C5 update that is not coming to our market, but in most aspects it is similar to the Chery Omoda 5
