So now even Nissan sports cars are going to be sold with an automatic transmission only?
Well, for some time now, we have seen the manual transmission disappear in some countries, be relegated to only cheap models in other markets and in the case of Japanese luxury carmaker, Lexus, even make an odd comeback in electric vehicles (EVs) of all things. Now it seems like the manual may be on its last legs.
So, last week, Nissan finally officially confirmed it is working on sportier Nismo version of the Z sports car. Now, nothing has been officially announced by Nissan but it was (very unofficially) hinted that a manual transmission will not be offered for the Nissan Z Nismo sports car.
Moreover, a leaked order guide posted on the New Nissan Z forums shows the only transmission option for the Z Nismo will be a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Of course, one should take this information with a grain of salt but given the current automotive climate, it is very likely true.
Naturally, the regular Nissan Z with the automatic has a rev-matching system on downshifts and aluminium paddle shifters, so we can expect that these features will also be present in the Nismo model. Sadly, it looks like even the U.S and Europe will never see a three-pedal version of the Nissan Z Nismo.
On top of that, while no official information regarding the engine of the Nissan Z Nismo have been revealed, we can assume that the 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine will carry over but it will probably be tuned slightly to make 500hp, up from the 400hp of the standard version.
As far as torque goes, it is safe to say the Nissan Z Nismo should have somewhere around 475Nm. What’s more, it also appears that regardless of the exterior colour of the car, the interior will feature alcantara upholstery inside the cabin as standard.
Speaking of colours, it would seems that there will be several two-tone options for the Nissan Z Nismo, such as a black roof over Stealth Gray, Everest White Pearl, Passion Red Tricoat, and Brilliant Silver body, as well as a Black Diamond Pearl for those looking for a more subtle look.
The Nissan Z Nismo also sports a more prominent front splitter and a red stripe that outlines the lower edge, design features that are not available for the regular Z. The rear spoiler is also extended to the fenders, while the rear bumper has a more angular look than the existing car and features Nismo branding in the center.
