There is a new exclusive partnership agreement between TAG Heuer and the McLaren Group, according to TAG’s President and CEO Jean-Christophe Babin and McLaren Executive Chairman Ron Dennis. TAG Heuer will still be the supplier of the official timepiece for the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team. However, this partnership will be expanded to include McLaren Automotive, the maker of leading high performance sports cars such as the 12C and McLaren P1.
The engineers of TAG Heuer and McLaren have a strong technical partnership as they’ve collaborated on timepieces and on-board timekeeping systems, putting the focus on how connected watchmaking and racing car production are. Under this new partnership agreement, the future TAG Heuer will support McLaren’s ”Young Driver Development Programme”, a plan to recognize and support the most gifted young drivers. For several years, TAG Heuer has been successful at helping F1 champions. This is expected to continue by closely working with McLaren. Famous Mexican driver Sergio Perez will serve as the Swiss brand’s ambassador, along with Jenson Button, the Formula 1 World Champion. In commemoration of McLaren’s 50th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Carrera timepiece as well as to seal their partnership, the TAG Heuer logo will be seen on the rear spoiler of McLaren cars, the drivers’ suits and the team apparel.
