Perodua New Value Champion The Axia E, Debuts With New RM22,000 Price Tag

With car prices going up, Perodua offers Malaysians the Axia E at an unbeatable price

Okay, so inflation has led to many cars that we Malaysians would consider budget friendly cars to become, let’s say a bit more “atas” in terms of pricing. Well Perodua has just the thing for us more thrifty Malaysians, enter the Perodua Axia E, priced at only RM22,000 (without insurance) and will, no doubt, be a godsend for lower income Malaysians. Let’s explore.

Moreover, The Perodua Axia E variant is based on the brand’s older Axia model which was introduced in 2017 and is certified with a 4 star Asean NCAP rating by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS). This means that even though the car is priced very low, it does not compromise on safety in any way, shape or form.

Perodua President and CEO, Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad, said, “The Perodua Axia E is part of our original objective of providing affordable and quality mobility for all Malaysians.”

So far, the Perodua Axia E has been looking like the perfect car for most Malaysians, but surely by now, we must all know that nothing comes without a price and the price of owning this reintroduced budget friendly car is the fact that it only comes with a manual transmission and only two airbags, as well as a seatbelt reminder for the driver and a 5-year warranty.

On top of that, the Perodua Axia E comes in three different colour options namely, Ivory White, Glittering Silver and the new Granite Grey. The car was initially launched in 2014 and retains the same 1.0-litre powertrain and interior as the base model of that generation. Perodua also registered 606,756 units of the Axia model, including the All-New, current generation Axia which was launched in February 2023.

Dato’ Sri Zainal mentioned that Perodua is aiming to sell up to 1,500 units a month, which include individual owners and fleet sales but one has to wonder, will the lack of an automatic transmission hurt the car’s sales? After all, the majority of newer drivers only know how to drive an automatic so is Perodua limiting its own sales by doing this?

Dato’ Sri Zainal stated, “While we do not dictate who our customers are, we believe that having this model would be a welcome option by the majority of Malaysians. The Perodua Axia E has been market tested and proven over years and we believe that this variant would serve its current role of giving motorcycle owners an opportunity to own a new car.“

“Based on our discussion with local financial institutions we found that it only takes RM300 per month to pay the hire purchase cost of owning the Axia E. This is the same cost that would take for someone to buy a brand-new motorcycle on hire purchase.” He concluded.

So what do you guys think? Is this reintroduced Perodua Axia E worth the price or is the lack of an automatic transmission a deal breaker?
