After scoring three consecutive victories and pulling out a lead of 40 points in the overall general classification OAK Racing Team Total has nothing left to prove in the Asian Le Mans Series. However, the French squad is all the more determined to rack up another win with its Morgan-Judd LM P2 in the Sepang 3 Hours. To achieve this it has entered a 100% Chinese driver line-up for the final round as Yuan Bo is joining Ho-Pin Tung and David Cheng. So far this year the OAK Racing Team Total no. 1 Morgan-Judd LM P2 has had a perfect run in the Asian Le Mans Series. After the first three rounds of the season, the team’s scorecard reads three consecutive victories and two pole positions in the championship giving the French squad a 40-point lead in the overall classification and the title for the second year running.
To end the season with a flourish the team from Le Mans is determined to score yet another victory by clinching first place in the Sepang 3 Hours. Ho-Pin Tung and David Cheng have a solid lead in the drivers’ ratings thanks to their three wins at Inje, Fuji and Shanghai. For the final round they have a new team-mate, Yuan Bo.
Bo is more used to single-seaters as he has raced in the European Formula Renault and Formula Chinese Masters Series in which he made a name for himself as the best Chinese driver; he will make his debut at the wheel of an LM P2 at Sepang. He will be able to take advantage of the advice of his team-mates and use the free practice sessions to rack up as many laps as possible in the no. 1 Morgan-Judd LM P2 shod with Michelin tyres. Thus, Yuan Bo becomes the sixth Chinese driver to whom OAK Racing Team Total has given the opportunity to race in LM P2 in the last two years. This initiative shows the French team’s determination to create a hotbed of talent in endurance whose drivers can use the Asian Series as a stepping stone to the legendary Le Mans 24 hours.
This year the Sarthe-based outfit finished the race in seventh place in LM P2 with three Chinese drivers at the wheel of the new Ligier JS P2: the very quick Ho-Pin Tung, David Cheng who has shined in the Asian series with the team in the last two years as well as scoring a top-3 finish in the FIA WEC, and Adderly Fong who recently had a test with the Sauber F1 squad.
