Ferrari F40 Owned By F1 Champion, Alain Prost, Up For Auction

This Ferrari F40 is expected to fetch upwards of USD3.3 million

The Ferrari F40 is, without question, one of the most iconic sports cars, not only from the prancing horse brand, but also in the entirety of automotive history. While the car in general is already prolific, one particular model, chassis number 83249, has an even more illustrious history as it is the first-ever F40 owned by F1 champion, Alain Prost.

As a three-time Formula One World Champion, Prost was at the height of his career when he was given the keys to the aforementioned Ferrari F40 right as he entered Team Scuderia Ferrari as its driver in 1990. Now he is ready to pass the keys on and you have the chance to own this Ferrari as it heads over to an auction this May.

Moreover, the Ferrari F40 remains in pristine condition today and Prost took delivery of it in late 1989 but he never actually used it, selling it shortly afterward. The car’s next owner, Graham de Zille, put some miles on the F40, driving it all around the UK and even having it featured in a magazine article celebrating 50 years of Ferrari.

This particular Ferrari F40 has also changed owners several times over the years, but has always been meticulously maintained and remains in exceptional condition. It has even been granted Ferrari Classiche certification, meaning it still retains all of its original components, including the engine, gearbox, and bodywork.

On top of that, the Ferrari F40 is currently in France and the fuel bladders were replaced during a major service in March 2019 at Ferrari Lyon and will remain valid until September 2028. As for the tires, they are currently 10 years old, but the future winning bidder also will receive a set dated 2018 as well.

What’s even more impressive is that despite being more than 30 years old, this Ferrari F40 only has under 2,900 miles on it and is still a masterpiece of automotive engineering. Its powerful V8 engine is claimed to be as impressive today as it was when it was first built.

Another Ferrari F40 fetched USD2.15 million (RM9,542,990) at auction earlier this year, so with the added allure of previously belonging to an F1 champion, surely this F40 will fetch an even prettier penny. It will be up for auction without reserve from 10 to 12 May 2023, with a projected bid reaching USD3.3 million (RM14,647,380).
