Ford Cuts Price Of Mustang Mach-E For The second Time In 4 Months

Will AP holders here also slash prices of Mustang Mach-E sitting in their showroom?

Okay, so by now we should all be aware that in China especially, all electric vehicle (EV) brands are locked in a sort of a “price wars” situation where these carmakers are slashing prices left and right to gain a competitive advantage and now American automaker, Ford is doing the same, how will this affect Ford EVs in Malaysia?

So Ford is now once again cutting the starting price of its Ford Mustang Mach-E EV by USD1,000 to USD4,000 and this is the second time in four months the Detroit based carmaker is doing so. This means that the starting price of the car will now fall between USD42,995 and USD59,995. What about Ford AP holders in Malaysia?

Moreover, the price reductions are the latest price adjustment tactics from Ford in the EV market following Tesla cutting prices several times this year, but also slightly raising prices on some models as well recently but there has been no word from Ford about price cuts in Malaysia so will AP holders here also be forced to slash prices?

Ford also last announced it was cutting prices of the Mustang Mach-E by USD600 to USD5,900 in January, weeks after Tesla announced similar price cuts for vehicles such as its Model Y, which is comparable to the Mach-E, so in order to remain competitive, Ford will have no choice but to slash prices as well.

On top of that, Morgan Stanley analyst, Adam Jonas, said in an investor note, “Like other [automakers], Ford must decide what kind of EV strategy to pursue: Grow fast and burn cash or a more focused approach that prioritizes capital discipline.”

In addition to the price cuts, Ford also said that the standard range models of the Mustang Mach-E will now be powered by lithium-iron phosphate batteries instead of lithium ion. This decision will give the vehicles additional horsepower and range as well.

“The production increase for Mustang Mach-E in the second half of this year is part of Ford’s plan to scale electric vehicles and make them more accessible and affordable for customers.” Ford also said in a release.

Ford has also said that its BlueCruise hands-free driver-assistance system will be made available on all Mustang Mach-E models. A complimentary 90-day trial of the system will be included for new owners as well and Ford has said that a three-year subscription for BlueCruise will cost USD2,100, up from USD1,900, but I believe systems like this should be standard for the price on pays anyway.

So how will this affect prices of Ford Mustang Mach-E models in Malaysia and since Ford authorised dealers will have to slash prices anyway since they operate under the Ford Motor Company, AP holders will also need to slash prices if they want to have any hope of staying in business.
