The world’s first all-electric hyper SUV is also the first EV and SUV from Lotus
Lotus Cars Malaysia, needs no introduction in the country and has just launched the highly-anticipated and first of its kind fully-electric hyper SUV, the Eletre, in Malaysia and it is a looker. No matter which angle you see this car from, it is simply mesmerising and with electric vehicle (EV) tax exemptions, it is also a steal.
For the first time in the stellar 75 year history of Lotus, the brand is giving us something other than a sports coupe but it is still a Lotus through and through. Plus, customers can also further customise their Eletre with a plethora of ADAS, parking and comfort packages.
Moreover, the Lotus Eletre is available in three variants in Malaysia, namely the base Eletre which goes for RM578,000, the Eletre S which will set one back RM648,000 and the range topping Eletre R which costs RM798,000. All of these prices are on-the-road prices without insurance or road tax in Peninsular Malaysia.
The Lotus Eletre also features the largest battery we have seen in an EV so far, a 112kW unit and the car comes with a 5-year/150,000km manufacturer warranty while the battery comes with a 8-year/200,000km warranty and Lotus has already received 140 bookings leaving only 60 more units available for 2023.
Daniel Balmer, Regional Director, Asia pacific and Middle East, Lotus Cars, said, “This is a momentous point in the history of Lotus Cars. The Eletre is a bold and revolutionary new car, delivering on our commitment to move the brand into completely new automotive segments as we widen our global appeal and accessibility.”
“it is a true Lotus and we’re confident it will delight performance car customers and offer a distinct alternative to the segment. The Eletre has the soul of a Lotus and the usability of an SUV. Alongside the Emira sports car, this is the perfect two-car garage from Lotus.”
On top of that, the Lotus Eletre is built on the brand’s 800v Electric Premium Architecture (EPA) platform and features a flat ‘skateboard style’ battery pack allowing for better stability with its lower centre of gravity. The car also features two powertrain options both with two motors making the car all-wheel drive.
The Lotus Eletre and Eletre S are powered by a single speed system making 603hp and 710Nm of torque with a century sprint time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 258km/h while the Eletre R features a dual speed system making 905hp and 985Nm of torque with a 0 to 100km/h time of 2.95 seconds and a top speed of 265km/h.
The Lotus Eletre and Eletre S also have a WLTP range of 600km and the top spec R model has a range of 490km. All models also feature a 350kW charger allowing the car to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 20 minutes and the car can accept 22kW AC charging as well.
