Tesla Model X Sinks In Danube River, Sells For USD24,000 The Next Day

How did the Tesla in question manage to retain such a high resale value?

Well, it was inevitable wasn’t it? I guess the law of averages (or Murphy’s Law depending on how you see it), it looks like some owner’s negligence has reached an all new high as apparently, a Tesla Model X SUV somehow (probably parked without engaging the parking brake) slid into a river when no one was inside.

While this happened near Budapest last September, it is a very odd case that has only recently come to light. So long story short, on 6 September 2022, a blue Tesla Model X somehow slid into the Danube river at a ferry dock not too far from Budapest but pictures and details were only just recently shared on Reddit.

Moreover, there were some images shared online by Index last year which would suggest that the Tesla EV SUV had slid down a concrete boat ramp, most likely, as a result of the driver forgetting to put it into park and engaging the parking brake. If this is true, well, then the driver deserved this.

At first glance, one would most likely assume that the Tesla had driven into the river as a result of some … questionable self-driving technology, but as unpredictable as this technology is, it is not nearly as bad as this to randomly drive itself into a river. Still, this could have easily been avoided.

It has been stated that the owner of this Tesla Model X had immediately contacted firefighters after the car had hit the water but by the time the firefighters had arrived, the car was already fully submerged in the river which then prompted a crew of rescue divers being called to search for the car.

On top of that, when the Tesla Model X was found, it was seen with its falcon doors and rear boot open and it was fished out of the river in this state as well. This was most likely a safety system that will prevent passengers in the car from drowning when the car is submerged. Kudos to Tesla for thinking of that.

So far so good, but what happens next is downright hilarious as despite being completely submerged and even the interior being water damaged, the Tesla was allegedly sold for €22,000 (about USD24,000) the very next day. Why anyone would ever spend that much on a water damaged car is anyone’s guess, but it is weird.

The real question now is, was there some buried treasure that managed to find its way into the car which then caused the buyer to choose this Tesla and actually make more money buying the car than he spent buying it? Jokes aside, I only hope the car does not give the new owner any problems.

We got all this from Carscoops and their full article is linked here. Thank you Carscoops for the information and images.
