This picture of a Subaru XV pickup truck or ute might be fake or could be a great marketing trick.
We will have to wait and see if this pickup truck will become a reality as it looks very close to a real product from Fuji Heavy Industries.
As you already know, Subaru has been leading in all wheel drive vehicles for years, from Rally cars to road ready family friendly SUV’s.
So, the decision to produce a full pickup truck that challenges the established models like Hilux, Ranger, Triton and D-Max comes as no surprise. Plus the pickup segment is growing in ASEAN and also other nations.
Meanwhile, just a few days ago, Subaru unveiled their all new Crosstrek Wilderness which is the North American market’s equivalent to the popular Subaru XV, so in a way this is an enhanced off-road version of the latest XV. (pictured below)
Interestingly, this Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness comes with a revised drivetrain, elevated ground clearance, exclusive body cladding and X-Mode as standard. Powering the Crosstrek Wilderness is the 2.5L boxer 4-cylinder with direct injection.
This engine has an output of 182hp and 241Nm of torque. To improve off-road performance, the Lineartronic CVT has been retuned and the differential gear ratio has been revised.
Meanwhile, the increase in ground clearance which is to rival pickup trucks, has the approach angle increased by 2 degrees while the angle of departure has been increased by almost the same amount. The ramp break-over angle has gone from 19.7 to 21.1 degrees.
To further compete with the high technology pickup trucks on sale right now, this Crosstrek Wilderness is equipped with the brand’s award-winning EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, which includes Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control; Pre-Collision Braking; Pre-Collision Throttle Management; Lane Departure and Sway Warning, and Lead Vehicle Start Alert. In addition, Blind-Spot Detection with Lane Change Assist and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert are standard on the new model.
So, with Subaru global sales moving upwards and with more consumers looking at lifestyle vehicles like this ute, the possibility of this XV pickup arriving in showrooms is possible and could be good seller if priced right.
Right now the Subaru XV is priced from RM139,788 and is equipped with proper mud and dirt driving modes and let’s not forget, EyeSight safety features.
This means, this XV pickup truck can be priced between RM118k to RM128k only. Something to think about.
