The top-spec BMW 3 Series model arrives in Malaysia facelifted – the M340i.
The G20 BMW 3 Series generation brought a lot of firsts for the company. In Malaysia, the M340i was introduced for the very first time, marrying a locally-assembled 3 Series body with a 6-cylinder and BMW M performance specification, tuning and parts.
BMW Malaysia recently introduced the facelift of the standard 3 Series models and now the top-spec M340i xDrive has also been facelifted for our market. Pricing starts at RM391,800 and there is now an ‘M Sport Pro’ package available for an additional RM5,000. The new M340i xDrive has been introduced alongside a refresh of the long-wheelbase 330Li model, which we will cover in a separate article.
Exterior
The BMW M340i xDrive facelift model brings a refreshed exterior and a modernised interior. The exterior highlights include an updated hexagonal kidney grille, redesigned Adaptive LED headlights, M exterior mirrors, 19″ M Light Alloy Wheels in Double-Spoke Style 91 M Bicolour, M Sport Brakes in blue. The M340i comes with an M Rear-Spoiler and free-form design exhaust tips. The M Aerodynamics Package and M High-Gloss Shadowline are standard for Malaysia.
The aforementioned RM5,000 M Sport Pro package features distinct 19-inch M Light Alloy Wheels in Double-Spoke Style 792 M Bicolour Jet Black, M Sport brake callipers in Red, an extended array of Shadow Line gloss black trim pieces. There are no performance enhancements to this package.
Interior
The highlight of the facelifted G20 is of course the BMW Curved Display consisting of a 12.3″ information display and a 14.9″ control display. The gear selector too has been made minimal. The M340i xDrive’s unique interior highlight are sport seats for the front occupants, with memory functionality for the driver seat. A hand-stitched M Leather steering wheel is present too. The M340i also gets an M Headliner in athracite, Aluminium Rhombicle Antracite M Interior trim pieces and a Harman Kardon surround sound system. An electric glass roof has also been added. There’s also ambient lighting. The M Sport Package Pro adds M colours on the seat belts.
Performance
Thankfully, the BMW M340i M xDrive still comes with an inline 6 motor. The same B58 3.0L engine returns with an unchanged output of 387hp and 500Nm of torque, lending the M340i a 0-100km/h time of just 4.4 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 250km/h. An eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission sends power to all four wheels with an M Sport Differential in the mix. The BMW M340i xDrive comes with Adaptive M Suspension and Variable Sport Steering.
