It Is Confirmed, The Haval P04 Is The New Haval H5

The Haval H5 will be a 5-seater large SUV for China

Haval

So a while ago, we covered how Haval revealed an official picture of a new large SUV, the Haval P04, but the brand “accidentally” revealed a picture of it before as the Haval H5. Well, now it is confirmed that the new p04 SUV is indeed going to be the new Haval H5, a large 5-seater SUV for China.

For those of you who want to read about the original article we covered about the Haval p04 (now confirmed to be the Haval H5), it is linked here but basically, it goes into whether that car would end up being the new H5 and now, we can confidently say, it is and it is expected to be officially launched in the fourth quarter of the year.

Moreover, when the Haval H5 was launched at the Changchun Auto Show in China on 14 July 2012,, it was marketed as an off-road vehicle and it costed RMB92,800 to RMB168,800 (about USD13,300 to USD24,200 USD). Then in 2017 the classic edition was launched and the car was discontinued in 2018.

So that is the end of the Haval H5 right? Nope, now after almost 5 years, the Chinese automaker is reviving the Haval H5 nameplate and is rebranding the car as the brand’s first large 5-seater SUV, which I find a bit odd as it certainly looks more than big enough in the pictures to be a 7-seater.

Regardless, the brand certainly knows what they are doing with the Haval H5 and this is very obvious from the fact that the car comes with many elements that make the car more suitable for off-road driving including  two silver chrome-plated strips inside the large trapezoidal grille and irregularly shaped headlights.

On top of that, based on the images, we can see that the Haval H5 will be offered in three different trim levels, namely the Haval H5, H5L and H5 MAX, each with a unique front grille design and will measure 5,190mm in length, 1,905mm in width and 1,835mm in height with a 3,140mm wheelbase.

As far as powertrains go, the Haval H5 will be offered in two powertrain options, a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine making either 145 kW and 165 kW of power, or a 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine making a maximum of of 122 kW of power, mated to an 8AT gearbox. Four-wheel drive also will be made available.

The interior of the new Haval H5 is not fully revealed but based on the images we can see that it features a floating central infotainment screen, a round steering wheel, what looks like a shift-by-wire gear shifter, a small digital driver display and an overall simple and monotonous interior. I personally like this.
