Suzuki is unveiling two new SUV models in India this year
Japanese carmakers are quite well loved in Malaysia, one in particular has been the best selling non-national carmaker in our country for many years in a row so clearly, we Malaysians love our Japanese brands. However, one brand in particular, Suzuki, has not been as popular domestically, but how is the brand doing internationally?
The Indian subsidiary of Japanese automaker Suzuki, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, has just announced the global launch of two new SUV models in the country which are the 5-door Suzuki Jimny and all-new Suzuki Fronx. These cars will make their debut at the Auto Expo 2023, in the suburbs of Delhi, India from 11 January 2023.
Moreover, Maruti Suzuki India will begin sales of its new 5-door Jimny as well as its all-new Fronx from Financial Year 2023. These two new additions to the brand’s SUV roster will now bring the total number of Suzuki SUVs on sale in India to four models.
This is exciting news for India as it now gives customers in the market more variety and options to choose from in the SUV segment which is growing in India. The two Suzuki SUVs are also slated to be exported to other markets including Africa and Latin America. There is no official word on whether it will come to Malaysia at the moment.
While the Suzuki Jimny has been a staple of the Suzuki brand for quite some time now, the production and sales of the fourth generation Jimny started in Japan in 2018, which was subsequently followed by exports to areas including Europe and Oceania.
On top of that, the fourth generation Suzuki Jimny was well received by customers all across the globe and in November 2020, production of the Jimny started in India with the purpose of exclusively exporting to areas including Latin America and Africa. Now that the car is a 5-door, it will probably appeal to a much wider audience.
The fourth generation Jimny will now be introduced for domestic sales in India for the first time as the all-new 5-door Suzuki Jimny. It is a new specification with rear doors newly installed for a 5-door design and special rear seats and interior trim adopted in the rear space.
The 5-door Suzuki Jimny will provide the same driving performance as the 3-door Jimny and it measures 3,985mm long, 1,645mm wide, 1,720mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,590mm. It will be powered by a 1.5 litre petrol engine and will be paired to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
So what do you guys think of the all-new 5-door Suzuki Jimny? Are you hoping to see it in Malaysia as well?
