The Next Generation Audi A8 Will Be Based On The Grandsphere Concept

The new Audi A8 might finally be the best looking luxury limousine soon

The next generation Audi A8 is set to go up against the likes of the Mercedes-Benz EQS as it will also ditch the petroleum engine in favour of an all-electric powertrain. The German automaker has also confirmed that the new generation of the A8 will be based on the recent Audi Grandsphere.

The new A8 will be the flagship for Audi’s new line of bespoke EVs built on the it’s PPE platform, which was co-developed with Porsche. What’s more, if the A8 really is going to be based on the Grandsphere concept then this may be the first EV from the big 3 German brands that I will actually think looks truly futuristic and stunning.

Moreover, it is expected that the all-new Audi A8 will be dubbed the Audi A8 E-tron and it should be fully unveiled some time next year. What’s more, if rumours are to be believed then the German automaker will make very minimal changes from the Grandsphere concept when finalizing the A8, but I think that may be a bit far-fetched.

Speaking of the Grandsphere concept, it is described as a “private jet for the road” and just like the Activesphere, Skysphere and Urbansphere electric vehicles (EVs), it is designed primarily around its capacity for level four autonomous driving. But all four also feature radical and eye-catching designs both inside and outside.

On top of that, Audi has also stated that the Grandsphere is the closest to a production car of the four “sphere” concept vehicles. Is this Audi subtly hinting that the Grandsphere concept will, without any shadow of a doubt, be adapted to the all-new Audi A8 or not?

Well, at 5,350mm long, 2,000mm wide and with a wheelbase of 3,190mm, the Grandsphere is already a great deal larger than even the long-wheelbase version of the current generation Audi A8, but I believe Audi would reduce the proportions a bit when making the A8 so that the car could feasibly still be driven on most roads.

Another feature of the all new Audi A8 based on the Grandsphere that needs to be removed is definitely the ridiculously large 23-inch wheels as this will not only be extremely expensive to maintain but also will lead to a lot of problems and will also look rather ugly on an otherwise gorgeous car.

Audi

Powered by a 120kWh battery capable of 270kW charging and a range of over 466 miles (about 750km), the all-new Audi A8 should feature a twin-motor four-wheel-drive powertrain producing 711bhp and about 960Nm of torque. Theoretically, it will go from 0 to 100km/h in just over 4 seconds.

So what do you guys think about the all new Audi A8? I am definitely excited to see what the final product will look like but I’d rather wait until it is fully unveiled before I say more.
