Lotus Cars Malaysia with the support of Lotus Owners Club recently held the largest ever gathering of Lotus cars in Malaysia in conjunction with the screening of the movie, ‘The Host’. The movie which features the Chrome Lotus Evora as one of its highlights is an upcoming Hollywood adaption of the novel by the same name written by Stephanie Meyer, author of the highly acclaimed ‘The Twilight Saga’.
A total of 75 cars comprising various Lotus models gathered at the Lotus Flagship Showroom & Center in Sg. Penchala, Damansara before heading to the movie screening in a convoy. A Chrome Lotus Evora, as seen in the movie and driven by Natasha Seatter – a Malaysian racing sensation, led the colourful and sporty convoy to Pavilion KL where the array of Lotus models were then parked and displayed outside of the super mall along the pavement of Jalan Bukit Bintang.
Present at the movie screening event and welcoming the arrival of the convoy drivers were the Executive Chairman of PROTON Holdings Berhad and Chairman of Group LOTUS, Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil and wife, Datin Sri Azian Abd. Talib accompanied by the members of PROTON and DRB-HICOM management team.
PROTON’s Executive Chairman and Chairman of Group LOTUS, Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil is very excited about the response and commitment by the Lotus owners in making the largest Lotus gathering possible. “We have many times affirmed our commitment to the future of this brand and this event is part of our continuous engagement program with the owners. They are our brand ambassadors and their driving experience testimonials are proof of the Lotus cars’ performance.”
He also added, “The movie provides a good opportunity for the LOTUS brand to be back in the limelight. The dynamic driving scenes and the presence of the Evora in the movie will mark yet another Hollywood showcase of our car, with the Chrome Lotus Evora taking its place alongside previous exciting, famous movie moments involving Lotus cars.”
Lotus has a strong cinematic history; with appearances in two ‘Bond’ films – in ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ out-racing a motorbike and helicopter before taking to the sea as the iconic submersible Esprit, and in a cool role in ‘For Your Eyes Only’; “cornering like it’s on rails” with Julia Roberts at the wheel in ‘Pretty Woman’; and taking part in an adrenaline fuelled chase sequence along the San Francisco coastline with Sharon Stone in ‘Basic Instinct’.
Negotiations for a “hero car” for the movie started in early October 2011 and by the end of the month Lotus had agreed to provide a number of Evoras to the project directed by its screenwriter Andrew Niccol who was looking for an extraordinary car for the role. The Lotus Evora was chosen for its stunning and futuristic aesthetic, which when juxtaposed with contemporary locations, gives a truly alien element to the Sci-Fi movie.
As part of the movie promotion, members of the public will also be able to get an up-close view of the Chrome Lotus Evora currently on display at at IPC Shopping Centre, Mutiara Damansara from today, the 11th of April 2013 until the 28th of April 2013.
