The VW Beetle range in Malaysia has been expanded recently to cater for a wider reach. Safety can be taken for granted thanks to a top 5-star Euro NCAP rating All models still come with class leading safety and here is why the new Beetle should be the next car you test drive to buy.
New in the Beetle is its anti-theft alarm system with electronic immobiliser which offers maximum protection against vehicle theft. In addition to the anti-theft alarm system, the car comes standard with a 3-point seat belts with seat belt tensioners, safety-optimised front headrests, combined side and thorax airbags (for front passengers), as well as driver and front passenger airbags with front passenger airbag deactivation. This exciting but safe car is also equipped with anti-lock braking system (ABS) with brake assist (BA), electronic stability control (ESC), electronic vehicle immobilisation device, hill-hold control, park distance control (PDC), and child seat anchorage points (ISOFIX).
(picture above) The dummy’s position in relation to the door frame, steering wheel, and instrument panel after the crash test indicates that the driver’s survival space was maintained reasonably well.
As well as being economical and environmentally sound, the Beetle is also built to be one of the safest cars on the road thanks not only to features such as standard ESP and six airbags but also a laser-welded and galvanised body structure which has one of the highest torsional rigidity values in the segment at 26,000 Nm/°. Volkswagen engineers have also added a safety feature that you should know about. If you decide to have a look at the engine, the engine bonnet cannot be opened with the door closed. Not available in many other cars from established brands.
(picture above) This Beetle was among the safest of cars tested, with a 5-star rating, 92 percent for adult occupant protection, 90 percent for child occupant protection, 53 percent for pedestrian protection, as well as 86 percent for safety assist.
The passenger compartment kept its shape well during the frontal impact, with dummy readings showing good protection of the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. However the steering column could posed a risk to occupants of other sizes and sitting in different positions. The fresh Beetle received the maximum number of points for the side impact and in the more sever side pole test, the protection of the test was adequate while the other body areas received good protection. The seat and the head restraint offered good protection against whiplash injuries in the even of a rear-end accident.
The protection for child occupants, as well as the information connected to this offered to the driver was good. When it came to pedestrians, the bumper offered good protection.
The Beetle 1.2l TSI Design is priced at RM131,888 and RM142,888 for the 1.2l TSI Sport.
