Chery set multiple records in 2022 and remained China’s top passenger car exporter for its 2nd decade.
Chery may not be selling cars in Malaysia right now, but the company recently confirmed that it has been China’s top vehicle exporter for 2 decades straight. In 2022, the company once again clinched that title with a record setting 451,337 units exported to markets outside of China, representing an incredible 67.7% year-on-year growth.
Overall Chery’s sales have been strong. In 2022, they sold 1,232,727 vehicles – the first instance of the company breaching 7-figures in its annual sales volume. Today, the brand has 11.2 million global users, 2.4 million of whom are outside of China. Chery also says that it’s amongst the most inventive companies in the industry with 25,795 patents applied for as of the end of 2022.
Chery used to sell vehicles in Malaysia and are planning on a big return to the market with their Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 4 Pro.

Having sold 105,483 units in December, the Chery Group has made history by selling 1,232,727 units globally in 2022 (+28.2% year-on-year, or YoY), including 451,337 units outside China (+67.7% YoY).
Not only is this the first time Chery’s annual sales have broken through the one-million-unit barrier; it is also an annual export record, and means that Chery has now topped Chinese-brand passenger car exports for 20 years in a row. Chery now has 11.2 million global users, including 2.4 million outside China.
Chery continues to develop competitive products of global standard through close interaction with its customers worldwide. 2022 saw the company break its own monthly export record four times consecutively, with four months of exports exceeding 50,000 units. Driven mainly by the Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 series, Chery’s cumulative export volume currently accounts for a fifth of the total export volume of Chinese automobiles over the same period.
Chery’s strategic determination and relentless pursuit of high-quality development have taken all its major business indicators to record highs.
