Mitsubishi Red Peak Challenge Comes to East Malaysia

Mitsubishi VGT Red Peak Limited Edition

Inspired by Mitsubishi’s victory in the 2014 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb Challenge, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia will embark on its latest 4×4 adventure in East Malaysia called the Mitsubishi Red Peak Challenge. The first-of-its-kind event will see Mitsubishi 4×4 vehicles perform amazing feats on a specially outfitted obstacle truck.

Two-time Dakar Rally Champion Hiroshi Masuoka will also make a special appearance on 15th November 2014 (12.00pm to 1.00pm) as guest-of-honour of the Red Peak Challenge East Malaysia launch as well as to meet and greet his fans.

Masuoka played a pivotal role in the Mitsubishi Motors team that conquered Pikes Peak in the famous International Hill Climb Race earlier in the year. The Mitsubishi Motors team fielded two fully-electric MiEV Evolution III race cars piloted by American racer Greg Tracy and Masuoka. The team not only succeeded in securing first and second places in the Electric Division, but also second and third overall, challenging and beating many other more powerful internal combustion engine race cars.

To celebrate the victory at Pikes Peaks International Hill Climb Challenge 2014 – the 20km hill climb race is also commonly referred to as the “Race to the Clouds” – as well as paying tribute to the achievement of the Mitsubishi Motors team, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia decided to name the obstacle truck after the Pikes Peak victory.

The Red Peak Challenge will see the Triton pick-up, the Pajero Sport SUV and the ASX Compact SUV being put through their paces on the purpose-built Mitsubishi truck featuring a wide range of obstacles including a 45-degree, 25-feet tall “sky” ramp that points upwards to the sky – an extreme test for any 4×4 vehicle. The giant ramp will no doubt challenge the capabilities of both man and machine while offering a bird’s eye view of the surroundings.

Other challenges in the Mitsubishi Red Peak Challenge include the roller ramp test that will see the 4×4 vehicles “drive through” the Red Peak Challenge truck as well as the side traverse and uneven ramp tests.

The Mitsubishi Red Peak Challenge for East Malaysia will begin on 14 November in Kota Kinabalu and roll on to other major cities in East Malaysia. Dates and locations are as below:
