Chery And CATL Say The Future Of New Energy Technology Is Now

Chery and CATL collaborate to advance new energy technology

Chery already hit the ground running in 2023 following a hugely successful 2022 but the Chinese automaker is apparently not satisfied with this and wants to keep pushing further as the brand is not slowing down and wants to bring the future of new energy technology to the present in collaboration with another company.

Chery has announced it has signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited. (CATL). This agreement between Chery and CATL basically will see both parties carry out all-round cooperation in various fields such as products, commerce, market promotion and commercial information resources.

Moreover, Chery and CATL don’t just intend to work on battery supply and technical cooperation on passenger vehicles. The two brands also aim to run joint exploration in areas such as mass transit, EIC technology integration of new energy and battery-swapping for buses, logistics vehicles, heavy trucks and electric ships. The brands are doing this to boost and lead in the development of the automotive industry.

On top of that, CATL is the world’s largest lithium-ion battery manufacturer for EVs and will primarily focus on research, development, production and sales of traction battery and energy storage systems for new energy vehicles (NEVs). The company has also been in the top five global traction battery providers for 5 consecutive years.

Furthermore, Chery has been active in its Research and Development (R&D) since 1999 and over the past 2 decades have developed a holistic R&D system of new energy technology which covers vehicle integration, core technology and more. This helps the company rank first among Chinese automakers and third globally.

Perhaps the most ingenious system Chery has developed is its “457” technology development plan, which involves four vehicle powertrain platforms, five general subsystems and seven core technologies, covering sedans from the A to C-segments and SUVs from the B to D-segments, in new energy technologies.

Additionally, new energy development is becoming more prevalent in recent years as many major players in the automotive industry see this as a transitional period between traditional power and new energy. Chery has proven its know-how in this sector by selling over 210,000 NEVs in the first 10 months of 2022 alone.

Chery will continue to explore the mystifying world of new energy technology and practice green development while working with its partners to further promote sustainability in all fields, especially in the new energy technology industry and keep pushing the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) to achieve global carbon neutrality.

What do you guys think about this? Personally, I am still patiently waiting for Chery to reenter the Malaysian market first as my personal favorite Chery model at the moment, the Chery Omoda 5, is looking more and more appealing everyday.
