Perodua clinches 30% market share for 1Q

Perodua is expected to maintain its market lead with 30% share or 46,700 vehicles sold in the first quarter of the year on the back of its recently launched S-Series and 3 years free service campaign.  The bookings for the Perodua S-Series reached 14,000 units, while a total of 8,000 units or 60% have been registered since the variants were launched on the 13th of March.
“The S-Series represent one of our continuous efforts to bring greater value to the overall motoring experience of our customers,” Perodua Managing Director, Datuk Aminar Rashid Salleh said. Aminar said that the introduction of the 3 years free service campaign for all its newly registered models has also been a contributor to Perodua’s overall sales. “The added value proposition is well received by the public as it offers ease of mind as well as convenience for our customers,” he said.
On overall Perodua sales, Aminar said: “Based on our estimate, the total industry volume for the first quarter of the year is about 156,500 vehicles of which Perodua sold 46,700 units.”
He said that quarter-on-quarter sales basis, Perodua sales has increased by 4.4% to 46,700 units from 44,700 units in the same quarter of 2012. On a month-on-month comparison, Perodua sold some 16,200 units, which is slightly above 16,000 units sold in the same month last year.
Aminar said that the second quarter is going to be challenging as consumers were adopting a “wait-and-see” attitude in response to the possible reduction of vehicle prices.
“We believe that if there is any reduction, the process will take time as the players need time to adjust to any changes.
“In addition, any sharp decrease in vehicle prices will have a negative impact to both players and consumers as prices of used vehicle will plummet. We kindly advise consumers not to wait on their purchases as change will likely be gradual,” Aminar said.
Meanwhile, Perodua’s after sales division saw an increase in the intake of vehicles at its service centres by 3% to 454,900 vehicles in the first quarter of 2013 against 439,900 vehicles in the same period of 2012.
The compact carmaker’s parts sales also saw an increase in the first quarter of 2013 with over RM58.3 million sold, which is 5.8% up when compared with RM55.1 million worth of parts sold in the same period last year.
