The Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG E Performance Is Wild But Refined

This new Mercedes-Benz S63 takes luxury and performance up a notch

When one thinks of a S-Class, they usually think of refined, luxurious interiors and a quiet, comfortable ride, well the German brand appears to have gotten a bit too excited with the all new Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG E Performance and given it all that along with some insane performance as well.

Mercedes-Benz has just revealed the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG E Performance which is the most powerful S-Class ever made from the German brand and it is also the newest plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sports sedan from the brand with a twist as it is as large and luxurious but also nimble and deceptively fast.

Moreover, the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG E Performance is powered by a 4.0- litre twin-turbocharged V8 as well as an electric motor mounted on the rear axle that gives the rear wheels some extra oomph giving the car a total output of 791hp and 1,430Nm of torque which pushes this big car from 0 to 100km/h in about 3.2 seconds.

On top of that, the roaring V8 under the hood of the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG E Performance makes up to 603hp on its own while the electric motor continuously puts out 94hp and the car has a top speed of 250km/h but with the optional (standard in the United States) AMG Driver’s Package, that can be bumped up to 290km/h. The electric motor is also powered by a 13.1kWh battery.

What’s more, the engine of the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG E Performance is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels and the adaptive air suspension on the car (may be an optional add-on in some markets) even lowers the ride height of the car by 0.4 inches when going at speeds above 121km/h.

Now, obviously, crazy performance means neck breaking power and the sort of power the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG E Performance is packing needs a lot of stabilizing and reinforcement to keep the car in one piece so the car also features an aluminium stabilizer under the engine and a cross-brace for suspension mounting ports.

Furthermore, I consider the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG E Performance a true sleeper as it does not really look that different from a regular S-Class. The differences are subtle and I like that as the only way one could tell this car apart from the others would be through acute observation.

Things to look out for include a different front grille with vertical louvers and an AMG badge consisting of a mix of chrome and black parts as well as larger openings on the outer edges of the front fascia and quad exhaust tips with a diffuser running between them in the rear.
