Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport is once again the fastest production car in the world

The Guinness Records organization has just released an official statement to say that after a comprehensive review with several external experts, it is confirming that the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 SuperSport holds the record of ‘fastest production car’ in the world. There was a recent controversy on whether this car qualified under the Guinness World Records’ rules. Its claim was disputed after the model that was shipped to buyers had a speed limiter to keep it at only 258 mph while the car that set the record had this limiter removed. Some had reasoned out that the factors considered for a “production” vehicle are its number of units sold and produced. A strong contender for the title was the 1244 hp Hennessey Venom GT, which was tested at a venue different from the Bugatti, which was tested in Germany on VW’s private high-speed track. The Guinness organization’s review focused on what is considered to be a change to a car’s standard specification. After examining all the required information, Guinness World Records has been satisfied that changing the speed limiter does not amend the fundamental design of the car or its engine.
