Porsche 911 GT3 RS Completes Nurburgring In Under 7 Minutes

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS shows uncompromising performance

The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS completed the legendary Nurburgring in only 6:49.328 minutes, a whole 10.6 seconds faster than the current Porsche 911 GT3. Driving the car on the Nurburgring was Porsche brand ambassador Jorg Bergmeister, who was also involved in the development of the new 911 series of cars.

The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS was said to be purpose built for unwavering performance and it proved that on the Nurburgring. The car produces 525Ps and takes full advantage of motorsports based technology and concepts to achieve it’s impressive performance figures.

Moreover, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS possesses a high-revving naturally aspirated engine with racing DNA and lightweight construction. It also takes aerodynamics and cooling to the next level and at 285km/h can produce a total downforce of 860kg. That’s three times more than the 911 GT3.

Director of GT cars, Andreas Preuninger, said, “Today the 911 GT3 RS delivered what it had already promised at first glance – absolute excellence on the racetrack.”

“Considering the far from ideal conditions, with a strong headwind on the long straight of the Dottinger Hohe and cool asphalt temperatures, we are satisfied with this time. The 911 GT3 RS is setting new standards for aerodynamics and the chassis. Never before has a road car embodied so much motorsport.” He added.

On top of that, the Porsche 911 GT3 RS was equipped with the Weissach package with the optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres size 275/35 R 20 in the front and 335/30 R21 at the back. The car had also completed the previously standard shorter lap in 6:44.848 minutes.

Jorg Bergmeister stated, “We lost a little downforce due to the strong, sometimes gusting wind, but I’m still very happy with the lap. In the fast sections in particular, the 911 GT3 RS is in a league of its own. Here it’s on a level usually reserved for top-class racing cars. The car is also setting new standards in braking. Fast laps on the Nordschleife are simply so much fun in this car.”

Vice President of model lines 911 and 718, Frank Moser, also said, “I’m incredibly proud of what the whole team has achieved during the development and testing of the new 911 GT3 RS.”

“Today Jorg Bergmeister brought everything together and unleashed the car’s full potential. The 911 can still surprise us and proves that the rear engine concept is still supremely suitable for high-performance sports cars.” He added.
