This will be the first GT3 to make a competitive debut ahead of official release
It is confirmed, the 992 Porsche 911 GT3 R will make its competitive debut at the Nurburgring-Nordschleife this weekend. This also means that the car will debut ahead of its official release to customer teams next year. Looks like the upcoming race should have us all glued to our seats then.
This 992 type Porsche 911 GT3 R will be the first of the 2023 bound FIA-GT3 conforming cars to make a competitive debut ahead of its official release to customer teams. In the case of this car, that release would be next year. In essence, everybody will get to experience the beauty and speed of this car early and that’s always good.
Moreover, this GT3 is powered by a 4.2-litre flat six engine producing 565Ps of power and it is set to take on the Nurburgring Langstrecken Serie’ 54th ZEWOTHERM ADAC Babarossapreis, typically a four-hour race, this weekend. It is also one of two cars entered into the SPX category.
On top of that, operating this Porsche GT3 will be Manthey Racing with Porsche factory drivers Julien Andlauer and Frederic Makowiecki. The duo are also set to take this car on its maiden race outing so the pressure is on. This just keeps getting more and more exciting and I personally can’t wait to see this car race for the first time.
With races like this, obviously the GT3 car will be changed heavily to save weight so the pictures you see here will not reflect the public version of the car that we will see next year and apply only to the racing model for this weekend.
Michael Dreiser, Sales Director at Porsche Motorsport, stated, “The new 911 GT3 R has big shoes to fill. Its forerunner has won almost everything there is to win in the GT3 scene in four seasons since 2019. Its stand-out successes include overall victories at the 24-hour races at the Nurburgring and also here at Spa-Francorchamps.
“Raced by our customers, the predecessor scored class victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring. The new model faces a massive workload in the hands of the Porsche customer racing teams.” He added.
However, whether or not this formidable GT3 will be able to dominate on the track remains yet to be seen. So be sure to keep a close eye on this track beast while it’s on the Nurburgring to witness its true capabilities first hand.
