The Mercedes-Benz B-Class Compact MPV gets similar updates to the A-Class.
When it comes to compact Mercedes-Benz models, not every body style gets equal love in Malaysia. The A-Class 5-door hatchback and 4-door sedan are both great performers here. The GLA and GLB crossovers are also solid options. However, the CLA 4-door coupé and shooting brake as well as the B-Class compact MPV aren’t quite well-received here. The last of these, the B-Class, has been given a facelift for the 2023 model year, reflecting most of the changes found on the refreshed A-Class.
On the outside, the new B-Class gets a redesigned set of headlights with optional LEDs. The grille is new, as is the front bumper and LED tail lamps. There are four new alloy wheel options, some as large as 19″. Two little aero spoilers are found on the side of the rear window for better aerodynamics. 10 colour choices are available.
Inside you’ll find a new Mercedes-Benz steering wheel, which is wrapped in Nappa leather as standard. A redesigned centre console features a black panel look and the dual 10.25″ screen layout is still available. Besides the new steering and new centre console, the biggest change to the interior would be the introduction of new choices and colour finishes as well as a range of more sustainable materials for the cabin.
One of the new trim patterns features a star pattern as a highlight. An AMG Line option is still available as the sportiest version of the B-Class and it gets ARTICO/MICROCUT and red contrast stitching.
Mercedes-Benz has also simplified the equipment packages, bundling together options frequently ordered together. A reverse camera, multimedia displays, the USB package and more are now standard features. The latest MBUX system is included as is a new telematics system and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Wireless with an additional USB-C for charging.
As with the A-Class, the petrol engine range has been electrified with a 48V system for 10kW of additional boost. A new starter generator is included for smoother start-ups and sailing mode for when cruising. The Plug-in Hybrid powertrain also get a better high-voltage battery with 11kW AC charging instead of 7.4kW. The electric motor in this models has been improved by 5kW.
All that being said, we have our doubts that Mercedes-Benz Malaysia will bring the B-Class in. The pre-facelift model was indeed introduced, but we never saw one on the road and it is no longer listed on their website for sale.
