The Hyundai Staria is the brand’s most versatile 10-seater yet
Last year the Hyundai Grand Starex was discontinued and it left a void in Hyundai’s spacious people mover segment but today, Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) just launched the all new, feature packed and incredibly spacious Hyundai Staria which Hyundai says is designed based on a spaceship.
Designed for big families and businesses from the get go, this 10-seater Hyundai MPV has a four row 2-3-2-3 layout and has convenient storage and efficient space usage to ensure maximum comfort even for 10 passengers at one go. The sliding seats can also be folded down to make even more space for luggage or cargo.
Mr. Low Yuan Lung, Managing Director of HSDM stated, “The Staria and especially the 10-seater is designed to accommodate a variety of lifestyles and business needs. Its interior space and functionalities aim to transform how people experience in-car travel and provide greater flexibility of use for their needs.”
Moreover, at the event, the Hyundai Staria looked rather small on the outside from a distance but proved to be of mammoth proportions on the inside, speaking of the interior, I quite like it. It is an unconventional design for sure, but a great one. It truly does look like a spaceship just as it’s theme would suggest.
I especially like the unique design of the dashboard where the 10.25 inch digital driver display is fitted like an infotainment screen above the steering wheel and the 8 inch infotainment screen sits neatly in between physical buttons (thank you Hyundai, we do love our physical buttons) in a very efficiently packed centre console.
On top of that, The Hyundai Staria is perhaps the most versatile vehicle the brand has ever produced thanks to its efficient use of space measuring 5,253mm long, 1,997mm wide and 1,990mm in height with a 3,273mm wheelbase but it still has a convenient point of entry as it is not too high off the ground.
At the heart of this behemoth is Hyundai’s tried and tested 2.2 litre CRDi diesel engine putting out 177Ps of power and 431Nm of torque with an air cooled turbocharger paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It also comes with the full suite of Hyundai Smartsense safety features but only on selected variants.
