It is a handsome SUV, but with Chevy’s negative ASEAN history, looks like for China only.
Chevrolet is an American automaker and they have been in the business for very long, however, their international success did not translate well here in Malaysia as the brand has been coming in and out of our market and ASEAN so we will probably never see the Chevrolet Seeker, but will it be a hit in China?
While SAIC-GM has been rather quiet lately, the introduction of the Chevrolet Seeker, also known as the Xingmairo in China changes that. This SUV sits between the Chevrolet Trailblazer and Equinox in the lineup and the brand has hinted that the car may be introduced in other countries too, probably not Malaysia though.
Moreover, The Chevrolet Seeker comes in 5 trim levels and starts from 139,900 yuan or USD19,950 to 164,900 yuan or roughly USD23,500 and according to Chevrolet is aimed at younger customers with its list of high tech features and sharp, youthful looks.
The SUV is designed following the new Chevrolet design language which gives the car a muscular stance, low roofline and sporty and sharp angles all around to further emphasize the targeted demographic for this car. The striking Gold paint which seems to be the hero colour of the car and RS five-spoke wheels adds to this.
In the front, the Chevrolet Seeker has a chrome X shaped element on the honeycomb grille and sharp but thin headlights while in the rear, the somewhat P-shaped taillights add character to the car as this design is quite unique. The car has a 2,700mm wheelbase and is 4,537mm in length, 1,823mm in width and 1,564mm in height.
The interior of the car is where the younger crowd will truly be attracted to as it has a modern and minimalistic design with a simple and not too small gear shifter and ample space in the centre console, round air conditioning vents, a digital driver display and central infotainment screen.
On top of that, the Chevrolet Seeker comes with a bunch of class-leading safety features including cruise control, AEB, FCA, LCA, RCTA and so many more, making this car ideal for younger drivers or anyone with a small family.
Powering the Chevrolet Seeker is a 1.5 litre turbo petrol Ecotec four-cylinder engine which produces 135kW of power and 250Nm of torque paired to a CVT which means the car can go from 0 to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 205km/h.
What do you think of the Chevrolet Seeker? Would you have liked to see it in Malaysia? I know I would.
