Jetour Dasheng To Launch Soon In China Starting From USD14,700

Would you buy this sporty compact SUV over the competition if it were sold here?

Jetour is a Chinese automotive brand and have just announced that they are to launch their Jetour Dasheng, a sporty compact SUV on 8 September 2022. This vehicle is only going to be released in the Chinese car market. Pre-sales are to start at RMB99,000 to RMB131,000 which is about USD14,700 to USD19,400.

The Jetour Dasheng is part of a new line of Jetour cars that specifically targets a younger generation of buyers and the name of the car reflects this as the name “Dasheng” can be roughly translated to “Great Sage.” The Great Sage is a character from the Chinese mythology “Journey To The West” and is beloved by the Chinese.

The exterior design also reflects the target audience of the Jetour Dasheng with a split-headlight design and scaly looking frameless grille. The car also features pop-out door handles which seem to be all the rage in China these days, and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The Jetour Dasheng has measurements of 4,590/1,900/1,685mm and a wheelbase of 2720mm and the rear taillights are an upside down L-shape. The word “Jetour” is prominently displayed both in the front and the back of the car and the rear also features a spoiler with a brake light integrated into it.

The interior of the Jetour Dasheng is simple and minimalist, with a 15.6-inch central infotainment screen and an 8-inch digital driver display with a Head Up Display (HUD) and comes equipped with level 2 autonomous driving assistance with cruise control and lane changing assist.

The seats are finished in white leather and many elements in the interior including the centre armrest are also finished in white. Should this car come to Malaysia, I hope the colour of the interior could be changed as the white colour can be very easily tainted.

The Jetour Dasheng also has a large sunroof that spans almost the entire length of the roof of the car. It is one seamless piece of glass that brings in light to both the front and rear row passengers.

The Jetour Dasheng will come in both Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) options with either a 1.5l or 1.6l ICE variants paired to a 6-speed or 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) respectively and a 1.5l engine paired to a 3-speed DHT transmission. The ICE versions will launch first.

The 1.6l ICE engine will produce 197hp and 290Nm of torque while the PHEV variant will make 326hp and 565Nm of peak torque. The PHEV version is also said to have a pure electric cruising range of 100km and claimed fuel consumption rate of 1L/100km. We got this from CarNewsChina and their full article is linked here.

All in all, the Jetour Dasheng is looking like a great option for the price, so would you buy it if it were to be sold in Malaysia?
