Cars Damaged As Retaining Wall Collapses In Ipoh

Will the owners be able to make a claim against the local authority?

Several cars were left damaged when a retaining wall located near Ipoh Garden collapsed during heavy downpour.

According to a report, the incident took place last Saturday evening at around 3.50pm. No injuries were reported.

A witness, who was in the area to pick up his son from computer class, said he heard a loud noise that sounded like a car crash and saw the wall had collapsed on several cars parked alongside it. He also said that it was raining heavily at the time of the incident.

Canning assemblyman Jenny Choy said she was assisting the affected vehicles owners with the matter.

Speaking of which, do the affected owners have the right to any sort of compensation from the local authority seeing that the retaining wall comes within their jurisdiction? Plus, the cars were parked legally in designated parking bays and there seem to be no warning signs placed by the authorities.

Unless the wall was built illegally by another party, this case seems pretty straightforward and these car owners should be compensated accordingly.

If that’s not the case, these owners should be able to make a claim from their own car insurance, on condition that they have a special perils coverage in their insurance policy.
