Apart from its home market, the Mulan will also make its way to Europe
SAIC Motor’s MG has officially revealed its first ever electric vehicle developed with global markets in mind – the Mulan. We have no idea if the car is named after the legendary folk heroine (it most probably is) but yes, that is what it will be called in China. As for export markets, reports suggest that it will retain the MG 4 name.
The Mulan/MG 4 seems like a five-door hatchback but MG is calling it a “pure electric super crossover vehicle”. Built on the automaker’s dedicated EV platform known as the Nebula, the car is said to measure around 4,300 mm in length, putting it in between the Ora Good Cat (4,235 mm) and Nissan LEAF (4,490 mm) dimensions-wise.
As for the styling, it’s evidently more aggressive and modern compared to the current crop of MG cars. The front fascia is a reminiscent of that of the Kia EV6 GT-Line thanks to the sharp pair of headlights and large bumper openings. The rear features arrow-shaped tail lights with light bars that extend to the middle tailgate, only to be separated by a black trim bearing the MG logo. A two-piece spoiler mounted on the roof completes the sporty look.
MG has yet to reveal the interior but from the rear quarter image provided, it would seem that the Mulan will come with a tablet-style infotainment display. Of course, there’s also a full-length panoramic glass roof that can make the cabin feel a little more spacious.
No details regarding the drivetrain have been divulged either but according to reports, the Mulan will be capable of completing the 0-100 km/h sprint in just four seconds, with the output channelled to either the rear wheels or all four, depending on variant.
The car will also have “LBS recumbent cells” that can offer higher energy density in a smaller pack and is designed to maximise cabin space.
Elsewhere, the Mulan will come with a multi-link independent rear suspension to aid ride and handling as well as 18-inch alloy wheels. Tech-wise, it is reported that the it will be equipped with Level 3 autonomous driving capabilities.
