Geometry E Enters Chinese EV Market With Enticing Price Tag

Geely should consider bringing this to Malaysia

What you’re looking at here is Geometry‘s latest electric crossover to join the fray, the E. It seems to have a similar silhouette to the EX3 because it is essentially the same car, except that it has a more upmarket styling and perhaps surprisingly, a slightly less powerful drivetrain.

The Geometry E has just been launched in China and its prices range from 87,800RMB to 104,800RMB (RM57,560 to RM68,700), making it significantly more expensive than the EX3, which is priced at 59,700RMB (RM39,140).

Design-wise, the E sets itself apart from the model it’s based on with a minimalist front fascia featuring a full-width LED strip and square headlamps placed at each corner of the bumper. At the rear, there are L-shaped taillights that extend to the haunches and subtle-looking spoilers on both the roof and tailgate. A black roof and pillars, as well as plastic cladding around the lower body complete the look.

You’ll notice that the unit featured here, which is a show unit displayed at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Auto Show, has cartoon tiger decals on the left side. This is a reference to the E’s original name – the X Thunder Tiger.

The interior is somewhat more high-tech than the EX3, with a MBUX-style twin 10.25-inch screens sitting atop the dashboard being the main differentiator between the two. Elsewhere, you’ll find a very simple centre console design where the rotary gear shifter, electronic parking brake and cupholders are housed. The floor mats are a cheerful addition but we doubt they will be offered to customers.

Like the EX3, the E is powered by a single electric motor on the front axle but output has been tuned down from 94 hp to 81 hp. Geometry is offering two battery options – 33.5 kWh that offers a range of 320 km and 39.4 kWh with 401 km with a full charge. According to CarNewsChina, Geometry is cooking up a more powerful version with a 39.4 kWh and 380 km of range. Swappable batteries are also in the pipeline.

So, what do you think? With that kind of price tag, plus free road tax until 2025 and exemption from import duties, excise duties and sales tax, the Geometry E seems like the right car to entice middle class Malaysians into jumping on the EV bandwagon.
