Just launched and already 100 plus Malaysians have ordered the Lexus NX 2022 model.
The teaser for the Lexus NX was done just a month ago and already there are slightly more than 100 bookings to date. With an asking price from RM370,888 (for the NX 250 Luxury) this ultra luxury premium SUV from Japan has left nothing ‘out’ when it comes to providing a best in class luxury SUV drive experience.
We had the opportunity to test drive this all new NX 350 F-Sport recently around the Sepang Race Circuit (the other variant, the NX 250 Luxury was not available for us to sample on the track) and we found the new powertrain to be very intoxicating and very much ahead of the immediate rivals in its performance and also soundtrack.
The latest NX also benefits from a stronger stance which comes from a lower center of gravity. Lexus management was also proud to mention that this Lexus NX carries the highest number of technological changes since the Lexus brand was launched some 32 years ago.
The lower center of gravity and enhancements in vehicle rigidity allow for a higher horsepower 2.4 turbocharged petrol engine on the NX 350. The new 8-speed transmission provides this petrol-powered Lexus NX the feel of a performance vehicle with the higher perspective of a crossover utility vehicle.
This is made possible by improvements to torsional rigidity through laser peening welding and the addition of high rigidity foam, both Lexus firsts. The twin hood lock, also a brand first, adds front lateral flexural rigidity and improves the aerodynamics of the vehicle.
The exciting turbocharged petrol-powered engine boasts an estimated 275 horsepower and an impressive 430Nm of torque. Combined, these result in a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.8 seconds, which is a half-second quicker than the previous model.
This NX also carries a host of new cabin features that will soon be shared with all the next generation Lexus models like the RX, IS and even UX. This all new NX driver-centered cockpit has been meticulously designed with a focus on connecting the driver to the vehicle. The 7-inch Multi Instrument Display (MID) and Head Up Display (HUD), both NX firsts, are designed to convey vehicle information, alerts and updates, within the driver’s line of sight.
The MID’s single meter layout is made more visible by a high -definition screen. Most driving-related functions are concentrated on the steering wheel to allow for intuitive operation while keeping the driver’s eyes on the road.
In the center stack, the 14-inch touch screen, a first for Lexus NX, delivers an immersive multimedia experience. Dial controls remain for frequently used functions, like climate control and media volume.
With a small price difference between the NX 250 and the NX 350 F-Sport (about RM19,000 which makes little sense when you factor in the better power, higher torque and bigger wheel and tire combination), its no surprise that the NX 350 F-Sport has a majority of the bookings right now.
