McLaren Artura Debuts In Malaysia At RM1,05M Before Taxes

The McLaren Artura Plug-in Hybrid debuts in Malaysia.

McLaren Kuala Lumpur today launched the brand’s first-ever plug-in hybrid supercar, the Artura. The Artura was globally unveiled over a year ago and brings electrification out of the brand’s Ultimate Series of vehicles.

Not only is the McLaren Artura the brand’s first ever plug-in hybrid vehicle, it’s also the first break in naming convention for McLaren, as it doesn’t feature the company’s typical alphanumerical naming scheme.

The McLaren Artura comes with an all-new 3.0L twin-turbo V6 with its cylinder banks set at 120-degrees. This petrol engine is mated to a 94bhp electric motor. The engine is 50kg lighter than the typical V8 offered by McLaren. The combined power output of this electrified powertrain is 680PS and 720Nm of torque enabling acceleration from 0-100km/h in just 3 seconds.

Pricing begins at RM1,050,000 before taxes in Malaysia.

Here’s the press release with more information.

PRESS RELEASE

The all-new McLaren Artura was unveiled in Malaysia today at the McLaren Kuala Lumpur showroom. This next generation supercar has marked the beginning of both a new chapter for the pioneering luxury supercar company and a new era in supercar technology and performance.

McLaren’s first series-production High-Performance Hybrid supercar focuses more than half a century of the company’s racing and road-car experience and expertise into a next-generation supercar that blends ground-breaking technology with McLaren’s dedication to pure driver engagement.

Until now, hybrid-powered McLaren cars were only found in the rarified Ultimate Series, the legendary McLaren P1 TM pioneering the technology, followed by the Speedtail Hyper-GT using an electrified drivetrain to achieve a top speed in excess of 400km/h.

Everything on the McLaren P1 was designed with one purpose in mind: to enhance its performance. 916PS generated by the 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine coupled to an electric motor gives tremendous power and instant throttle response with an electronically limited top speed of 350km/h and 0-100km/h in just 2.8 seconds.

The Artura incorporates an all-new 120°-angle twin-turbo 3.0 V6, assisted by a compact 94bhp axial-flux E-motor. At just 160kg it weighs 50kg less than a McLaren V8 and is significantly shorter, enhancing packaging efficiency. The Artura’s combined output of 680PS and 720Nm and a DIN weight of 1,498kg enables blistering acceleration of 0-100km/h in 3.0 seconds; 0-200km/h in 8.3 seconds; and 0-300km/h in 21.5 seconds.

With acceleration figures now verified, the all-new High-Performance Hybrid powertrain in the McLaren Artura sets new benchmarks for performance, building on the levels of high- performance hybrid excellence set by the McLaren P1 TM  and the Speedtail Hyper-GT. With a starting price of RM1,050,000 but accessible with a wide variety of personalisation possibilities and options, the new McLaren Artura now offers a chance for owning a supercar that gives a driver’s experience that resonates to that of a hypercar.

With the Malaysian government’s push towards the adoption of EVs (Electric Vehicles), the future of automobiles is inevitably going to be in the electric market and the Artura will be leading the transformation among the supercar motoring in Malaysia.
