2022 Proton Saga Facelift Priced From RM34,400

The 2022 Proton Saga facelift brings a refreshed design and equipment, but remains largely similar.

The Saga has been Proton’s bread and butter for nearly 4 decades. The latest model has been in production since 2016 and was one of the first of the existing Proton models to get the ‘Geely touch’ in 2019. The facelift brought a new 4-speed conventional automatic, a 7” touchscreen and loads of design and NVH improvements to the A-segment sedan. 123,512 units have been sold since August 2019, 33.1% of the market in 2021 from 25% in 2019.

2022 PRoton saga launch

Today, Proton is improving the Saga once again for the 2022 model year. The 2022 model is a minor update with no major mechanical changes. 

In terms of styling, the new Saga features the new Proton logo on the front grille, rims and steering wheel. The front grille also features the new red ethereal bow on the front grille. Proton has also added a new skirting set to the front and side of the vehicle as well as new dual tone 15” alloy wheels.

For the first time, electric door mirrors with auto folding function is available on the Proton Saga.

Inside there are changes as well. The interior features a darker colour palette overall. There are also new red accents on the air cond vents and floor mats, a-la the Iriz Active. The seats are semi-leatherette and there is a new steering wheel, which is wrapped in leatherette material. It features controls for audio and handsfree telephony. There are three USB ports under a redesigned centre stack, which also features redesigned air cond controls.

The 7” infotainment system returns, but this time it has better bluetooth connectivity, a new operating system, and screen mirroring for both iOS and Android devices. The screen also flashes a reminder to the driver to check for belongings and children in the rear. The cabin lighting has also been improved.

The new Saga also features intelligent entry on the exterior door handles, remote trunk release on the keyfob and a push-to-start button inside.

Electronic Stability Control is now a standard feature on all Saga models equipped with an automatic gearbox. An N95 cabin filter is also standard on the Saga.

New OEM tyres ensure better grip and lower road noise. Revises suspension damping rates are said to improve ride comfort and handling.

Proton also took this opportunity to highlight that warranty claims for the Saga have reduced by 82% since 2017.

Four trim levels are available: Standard MT (RM34,400),  Standard AT (RM38,300), Premium AT (RM41,300) and Premium S AT (RM44,300) OTR without insurance without SST. Colour choices are: Snow White, Armour Silver, Jet Grey, Rosewood Maroon and Ruby Red.
