Porsche 911 Sport Classic Debuts, Only 1250 Will Be Made

Meet the limited edition Porsche 911 Sport Classic, an homage to the ’70s 911 Carrera RS 2.7.

Porsche are starting to make nostalgia work for them with their Heritage Design strategy. Just a couple of years ago, they introduced the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition, which they sold in Malaysia for RM1.677 million a piece. Now, they’re bringing another piece of their legacy to the forefront on a modern 911 platform. It’s the Porsche 911 Sport Classic – a tribute to the 1970s-era Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 – the first Porsche to sport the ‘Carrera’ name.

It is based on the current 992-era 911 Turbo S. This means it comes with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes with black calipers, Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control, Rear Axle Steering, Sport Chrono Package, a modified Sport Exhaust System, Porsche Active Suspension Management Sport. On top of all this, it’s a rear-wheel drive only model with decreased front axle spring rates compared to the standard 911 Turbo S.

The same 3.7L twin turbo flat six is found here, but in this 911 Sport Classic, the only transmission option is a 7-speed manual. The engine produces 543 horsepower and about 600Nm of torque. This makes it the most powerful Porsche 911 to be equipped with a manual transmission. Of course, the engine mapping had to be revised for this transmission.

The 911 Sport Classic will be limited to just 1,250 examples globally. Styling cues from the 911 Carrera RS 2.7 are found here in spirit and form. This includes the identical heritage Porsche crests, badges and Porsche lettering finished in REAL gold and much more.

It also takes cues from other heritage models like the Porsche 356, which is where the body colour comes from. Customers can also specify this model in Black, Agate Grey Metallic or Gentian Blue Metallic.

The 911 Sports Classic gets some unique looks thanks to a bespoke fixed spoiler lip and CFRP hood and CFRP double bubble roof. The digits on the side of the car in white can be customised at no cost as long as they’re 1-2 digits long. These are decals that can be removed in future.

The rims are a modern interpretation of the classic Fuchs design. Around back, the cutouts have been removed from the 911 Turbo S for a smoother appearance. A large CFRP ducktail spoiler has been added to complete the homage.

The interior is a throwback to the 60s and 70s with seat centres and door panels in Pepita cloth. Semi-aniline leather in black and classic cognac dominates the interior for the first time since the 918 Spyder. Open-pore dark Paldao wood trim is standard. The central analogue tachometer has been finished with a white needle and scale markings alongside green numbers and accents.
