Volvo Malaysia Delivers 65 Units Of XC40 EV This Weekend

By next week they will have delivered 100 units of the XC40 EV.

It is selling better than expected and it is because more Malaysians want to say ‘we have an electric car’! Is it to reduce emissions, or to send a message of being a more ‘green’ person or even saying ‘we are teaching the next generation to be more aware of the earth?’ Well, does it really matter?

The fact remains that Volvo XC40 EV has tickled Malaysians just like the Mercedes EQA and the Porsche Taycan did since its launch.

Since the launch of the XC40 EV in early April this year, we at www.dsf.my have had a number of readers reaching out to us with questions about battery life, warranty, driving distance, running costs, battery charging infrastructure and more. We are also constantly learning about this new powertrain technology and every electric vehicle manufacturer is trying very hard to provide a slightly different twist to their battery and charging technology.

This only means that the technology is evolving as you read this and we are also trying to understand and learn from the manufacturers and some experts in this field who have come to Malaysia to work behind the scenes to provide better ownership experience.

Meanwhile, if you are interested, this first ever locally-assembled Volvo XC40 EV is priced at RM262,459.75. In case you were wondering, the petrol version which was launched in October 2018 goes for RM241,997 and the plug-in hybrid electric version goes for RM258,888 in Malaysia.

Powering this XC40 EV is a twin motor engine that can output 408hp and 660Nm of torque. Its 75kWh lithium-ion battery gives it a range of 418km in a single charge. With 150kW DC charging, the car is expected to get a full charge in around 45 minutes. It can go from 0-100km/h in just under 5 seconds, which is not too bad.

Inside, the equipment is fairly similar to the previously launched petrol variant in Malaysia. It includes the 9-inch infotainment display integrated with Google, a digital driver instrument cluster, Volvo On Call and SOS services.

This Volvo like all other modern Volvo’s is also abundant with safety features. They include City Safety suite (collision avoidance & mitigation with intersection support; pedestrian, cyclist and large animal detection), front and rear collision warning and mitigation support, Driver Alert Control, Lane Keeping Aid, Run-Off Road Mitigation with Road Edge Detection, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Steer Assist and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) with auto-brake.

You can now book a Volvo XC40 Pure Electric at www.volvocars.com/my . There are six colours to choose from, which is Black Stone, Crystal White Pearl, Denim Blue, Glacier Silver and Sage Green.
