The Mitsubishi Minicab MiEV gets put to work in Indonesia, with 4 companies signing up to try it.
Indonesia has been extremely successful in attracting foreign investment when it comes to electrification and future mobility. Hyundai Motor Group famously moved their regional office to Indonesia and are building a mega factory there. This also signalled other related players, such as LG Energy Solution, to set up a battery factory in the country too.
Now, another Japanese car company is pushing future mobility projects in the country too, and it’s Mitsubishi Motors. Their Indonesian office, PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with four companies to try out a kei-car commercial EV.
The four companies involved in the project for at least 6 months are PT Pos Indonesia, PT Haleyora Power, Gojek and DHL Supply Chain Indonesia. The project will involve them using the Mitsubishi Minicab-MiEV. This Kei-car sized commercial vehicle is equipped either with a 10.5 kWh or 16 kWh battery. The larger battery returns 150km of range while the smaller one does just 100km. A maximum payload of just 200kg also severely limits what the MiEV can do in the real world.
Recharging the batteries is done via AC charging. Charging from flat to 80% on a 200V 3-phase 50kW charger will take between 15 minutes and 35 minutes, depending on the battery pack. Slower charging methods can take between 4.5 hours and 21 hours to fully charge without a fast charger. The motor sends up to 41PS and 196Nm of torque to the rear axle only.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation announced that PT Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Sales Indonesia (MMKSI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with four companies in Indonesia to conduct a pilot study on commercial usage of a kei–car class electric commercial vehicle (EV), Minicab–MiEV, a model currently marketed in Japan.
Under the MoU terms, MMKSI will provide the Minicab–MiEV to the four companies– PT Pos Indonesia, PT Haleyora Power, Gojek and DHL Supply Chain Indonesia –for six months for research and utilization in their logistics operations in Jabodetabek area. This study aims to understand and explore commercial EV applications, by verifying actual usage data, including mileage, charge history and delivery routes.
