Part of the Ford Performance family.
The Ford Raptor in ASEAN is probably the most unexpected success story for the Ford brand in decades. Yes, the Ranger sells more
The roots of the Raptor name lie in North America, where Ford has used it on high performance pick-up trucks and utility vehicles since the first-generation F-150 SVT Raptor, which was optimized for high-speed off-road performance.
The Ford Performance-developed Ranger Raptor expanded the Raptor badge to other global markets in 2018, including to a new audience of hardcore off road truck fans in Europe.
More recently, Ford Performance has announced the Bronco Raptor performance SUV and limited-edition Bronco DR desert racer in North America.
Ford also recently proved its rugged racing credentials in the FIA World Rally Championship’s electrified era; nine time champion Sébastien Loeb and co driver Isabelle Galmiche took victory at the iconic Monte Carlo Rally in the M Sport Ford Puma Hybrid Rally car.
The all-new Ford Ranger Raptor continues this legacy, with a purpose built vehicle that balances daily duties with performance never before seen in a pick-up of Ranger’s size.
After a few months of teasers, anticipation and rumors, Ford finally released the 2022 Ford Ranger Raptor. For starters, a Ford Raptor is a more aggressive and a performance-oriented version of the normal Ranger. It packs more power, a more aggressive body styling and off course it carries a bigger price tag than the standard Ranger.
The new Raptor received powertrains upgrades to give it a stronger muscle for better performance in the bid to continue ruling the pickup truck segment. Doing duty in the truck will be a 3.0L twin-turbo petrol V6 that produces 392hp and 583Nm.
That is a massive leap over the previous generation which had 211hp and 500nm. The six-cylinder is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission sending power to all the wheels.
Since the Raptor is developed for off-road driving it features new shocks and adaptive damping which adjusts depending on the terrain. The suspension upgrades will ensure it remains capable on all terrains ready for any assignment thrown its way. While 4WD is permanent, the Raptor will also feature a 2-speed transfer case to spice up its off-roading acumen.
The cabin gets a Bang & Olufsen sound system, leather sport seats as well as a bigger infotainment screen at round 12.5 inches. This Raptor will give you paddle shifters to give you a simulation of being in control of the gears. The first regions to receive the New Raptor will be Australia, South Africa and the US ahead of the general global market.
“We knew that customers would expect improved performance with the Next-Gen Ranger Raptor, but I’m not sure they’re really expecting the enormous leap we’ve made. It’s a seriously fun truck to drive and I think the raw performance is going to blow them away,” Burn said.
