The all-electric Nissan LEAF hatchback has been given a mildly refreshed look for 2022.
Electric vehicles are now part of the mainstream in many parts of the world, but few realise that it was Nissan that was first on the scene with the LEAF hatchback all the way back in 2010. The 2nd generation Nissan LEAF updated the styling, bringing it even closer to other conventionally-powered hatchbacks but today the car looks a little dated. Especially when you consider all the design changes that Nissan have implemented elsewhere in their portfolio.
So for 2022, Nissan has updated the 2nd generation LEAF. This minor facelift brings a bunch of new styling cues, including the flat-designed Nissan emblem that made an appearance in 2020 alongside their new Ariya (which might be coming to Malaysia very soon). The new Nissan logo makes an appearance on the LEAF’s wheels, front grille, rear hatch and steering wheel horn pad in a grey-on-black finish.
Changes to the exterior design also including very eye-catching alloy wheels, as seen in these photos. These new rims are available as a 17″ option, but there will also be a new design for the 16″ rims too for the more cost-conscious.
Nissan has also refreshed their line-up of exterior colours to now include Universal Blue and Magnetic Blue. There are six other colours and 5 other two-tone colour combinations that can be specified, depending on which market the LEAF is being sold in.
There will be two battery options for the 2022 Nissan LEAF with the e+ variant capable of returning 385km of electric range on a full charge. That’s not exactly great in terms of range, but it’s not bad for the price.
Nissan ProPILOT technology has been refined in the 2022 LEAF. It now can automatically stop, start and maintain a safe distance to the preceding vehicle. NissanConnect with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay has also also added to the infotainment system. NissanConnect also now allows customers to link their LEAF to their smartphone to use Amazon Alexa smart home devices through voice commands and to control the vehicle’s climate control and other features.
As before, the Nissan LEAF will be available with an e-Pedal to enable single-pedal driving.
