This latest C-Class will introduce more than just a handsome new face.
Since the 2014 global introduction of the current C-Class you see in Malaysian showrooms nationwide, over 2.5 million units have been sold to happy customers.
Arriving this week at all Mercedes-Benz showrooms, this all new C-Class will carry many of the S-Class features and engineering in a more compact shell.
Like with previous Mercedes sedans, this new W206 sedan has grown in dimensions against the current and soon outgoing model. Both the front and rear passengers benefit from the moderately increased exterior dimensions of the new model generation.
Interesting fact, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class was the replacement model for the ‘over-engineered’ Mercedes 190E (W201). Why we say ‘over-engineered’ is because when you speak to Mercedes mechanics in our country, they have always praised the 190E for its robust build quality and hardy cabin materials.
The C-Class success story began in 1982. This was when the Mercedes-Benz 190 was launched as a mid-size model. Because it was the smallest car in the Mercedes-Benz range at the time, it soon earned the nickname ‘Baby Benz’. It was not only with combustion engines, for example the sporty 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution with a four-valve engine, was the Mercedes-Benz that repeatedly made its mark, but also with alternative powertrains.
Meanwhile, like the recently launched in Malaysia all new S-Class, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz C-Class will be equipped with the second generation of MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience). The vehicle interior becomes even more digital and intelligent, as both the hardware and software have made great strides.
Mercedes cabin planners will provide drivers with a TFT touchscreen that will allow them to access a whole suite of features that customers want today, whether they need or use it or not. It will be a couple of levels above what Tesla is providing.
There will be a best in class 11.9-inch central multimedia touchscreen shared with the new 2020 S-Class luxury sedan and a freestanding 12.3-inch digital instrument panel that will be tilted 6 degrees towards the driver for better viewing and use.
This C-Class will be equipped with a new turbocharged 1.5-litre inline-4 with a 48-volt mild hybrid system and paired to Mercedes’ own 9G-Tronic.
The C200 will deliver 201hp and 300Nm, with a 0-100km/h time of 7.3 seconds. Later this year, we will see the C300e, which is a plug-in hybrid working with a turbocharged 2-litre engine paired with an electric motor that delivers 308hp and accelerates from 0-100km/h in just 6.1 seconds.
When the C300e’s 25.4kWh lithium-ion battery is fully charged, the car to be driven up to 100km on just battery power.
