0Why Ferrari’s 2022 F1 Car Is Called The F1-75
Ferrari did well at the 2021 Formula 1 World Championship season and they’re pretty excited for the 2022 season. For this season, the Scuderia race team has a new car and they’ve taken to calling it the ‘F1-75’, breaking the precedent of beginning the name of their cars with ‘SF’ since 2015.
“Formula One, with its spirit of competition and innovation, has always been a fundamental part of Ferrari, driving the technological development of our road cars,” commented Chairman John Elkann. “This year, as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of our first production car leaving the factory, we honour that spirit by naming our 2022 F1 challenger the Ferrari F1-75.”
The official reason for them naming their 2022 Formula 1 car the F1-75 is apparently because it has been 75 years since the company produced its first production vehicle, the Ferrari 125 S. What’s more, the upcoming Ferrari SUV has been carrying to codename ‘Project F175’, which also points to some secondary marketing reason for this F1 car’s name.
This Ferrari F1-75 will be the 68th car to be built by Ferrari to compete in Formula 1. It will be officially shown for the first time on the 17th of February and the Formula 1 season for 2022 will kick off at Bahrain on the 20th of March 2022, with testing taking place in Barcelona on the 23rd of February and again at Bahrain on the 10th of March. Driving the F1-75 will be returning Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.
Team Principal Mattia Binotto and a small team oversaw the F1-75’s first engine fireup just today on the 3rd of February 2022. The motor fired up for around 30 seconds in the vehicle assembly area.
“This is a very special moment, more so than at similar occasions in previous years,” said Binotto. “The F1-75 is a completely new car and is the culmination of a journey we all started together a few years back, working as a united and determined team.”
Will you be cheering on Ferrari this season? It has been a long while since the Prancing Horse took home a World Championship. Finishing third in 2021 showed that Carlos Sainz might have what it takes to bring the team back to its former glory and Red Bull Racing showed that Lewis Hamilton’s first place finish is no longer a guarantee in Formula 1.
