It won’t be long before its first deliveries begin
The 2022 Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 has recently made its dynamic debut on public roads, five months after its unveiling at the 70th Concours d’Elegance in Pebble Beach, California in August last year. The two other cars you see here are the original Countach LP 400 and the final production unit of the Countach 25th Anniversary.
According to Lamborghini, deliveries of the new Countach will start sometime in the first quarter of this year. Unlike the original version, which had a production run of nearly 2,000 units, the reborn legend is limited to just 112 units with each costing €2 million (RM9.45 million) before taxes.
As a refresher, the Countach LPI 800-4 is powered by a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 hooked up to a 48-volt electric motor mounted directly on the gearbox. The engine, which is also deployed in the Aventador, makes a healthy 780 PS but the presence of an electric propulsion bumps up the total system output to an earth-shattering 814 PS.
With a seven-speed Independent Shifting Rod (ISR) automatic transmission channelling the drive to all four wheels (that’s what the ‘4’ in the name indicates), the Countach is capable of sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h sprint in just 2.8 seconds and 0 to 200 km/h in 8.6 seconds. Top speed is quoted at 355 km/h.
The aforementioned electric motor gets its power from a supercapacitor, which the supercar maker says can provide three times more power compared to a lithium-ion battery of the same weight. Sounds familiar? Well, it is essentially the same technology you’ll find in the Sian.
PRESS RELEASE
For the first time since its unveiling at Pebble Beach on August 13, the Lamborghini Countach LPI 800-4 is taking to the road. On this special occasion, the brand-new super sports car was accompanied by two of its most important predecessors: the first Countach LP 400 and the last Countach 25th Anniversary produced. The dynamic debut together with two protagonists of the company’s historic collection provided extraordinary and unprecedented images.
The Countach LPI 800-4 produces a total output of 814 hp; it is powered by a Lamborghini 6.5-liter V12 engine, delivering 780 hp, combined with a 48-volt electric motor mounted directly on the gearbox, which provides an additional 34 hp of power for instant response and increased performance. The electric motor is powered by a supercapacitor that provides three times more power than a lithium-ion battery of equal weight.
The car will be produced in a limited edition of just 112 units, all of which were already sold before its presentation. The number of units is a reference to “LP 112”, the project name used internally during the development of the first Lamborghini Countach. Deliveries of the Countach LPI 800-4 will start from the first quarter of 2022 to customers around the world who will have the privilege of driving a piece of automotive history reinvented for the future.
