Honda Malaysia Introduces SP Grade Fully-Synthetic Engine Oil Grade

Honda Malaysia introduces a new SP Grade engine oil at service centres for better protection.

If you’re someone who likes to pamper their car, Honda Malaysia has introduced a newer grade of engine oil at their service centres. The new SP Grade engine oil will offer greater engine protection for Honda car owners. SP Grade engine oils will replace all existing SN Grade engine oils at service centres EXCEPT for SN 0W-30 fully-synthetic engine oil for high-performance cars like the Civic Type R.

Honda Research & Development approves and recommends SP Grade engine oils for use in most petrol and turbocharged engines. It enhances protection against low-speed pre-ignition and comes with timing chain wear protection, improved high-temperature deposit protection for pistons and turbochargers.

What is SP Grade versus SN Grade

The American Petroleum Institute (API) and International Lubricant Specification Advisory Committee (ILSAC) will adjust the specifications of engine oils periodically to meet manufacturer efficiency demands. The ‘SN’ standard was introduced in 2010 and ‘SP’ was introduced in 2020. ‘N’ and ‘P’ don’t standard for anything, they’re just the next letter in the alphabet, skipping ‘O’, because ‘SO’ may have been confusing for Canadians, where Esso is still marketed with the older Standard Oil name.

The SP standard was developed to better protect engines with turbochargers, direct injection and that can take E-85 ethanol (not used in Malaysia). It was also developed to keep engines protected at lower viscosities, which some engines demand.

PRESS RELEASE

Honda Malaysia (or the Company) continues to provide optimal engine protection and performance to its customers with the introduction of new engine oil to its line-up – the SP Grade, offering greater engine protection for Honda car owners.

Honda Malaysia is dedicated to bringing high-quality after-sales service to customers by constantly reviewing and upgrading its after-sales service products such as engine oils. As such, the Company introduced the newest SP Grade engine oil that can meet the needs of today’s vehicle engines. The SP Grade engine oil enables Honda engines to provide stable performance and better fuel economy while prolonging its lifespan.

The SP Grade engine oil will replace the existing SN Grade range except for the SN 0W-30 Fully-Synthetic which will still be available for cars with high-performance engines such as the Civic Type R.

Suitable to be used for most petrol and turbocharged engines, the SP Grade engine oil is approved and recommended by Honda Research & Development (R&D). The new engine oil range is formulated to fulfill all requirements of the Honda engine and meet the latest standards issued by the American Petroleum Institute (API). It enhances protection against low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI), an abnormal combustion phenomenon that can cause
significant damage to the engine.

The SP Grade engine oil also comes with a timing chain wear protection to minimise timing chain elongation. In addition to improved high-temperature deposit protection for pistons and turbochargers, it provides better sludge and varnish control, valve train and intake lifter wear protection, higher oxidation stability as well as emission control system protection. To top it off, using lower-viscosity oils such as SP 0W-20 Fully-Synthetic allows the engine to maximise efficiency while delivering high-level protection for key engine components.

The Company strives to provide excellent after-sales service satisfaction and the joy of ownership for Honda car owners. Therefore, the introduction of the SP Grade engine oil enables customers to enjoy driving with maximised engine efficiency.

For more information on the new Honda engine oil, customers can visit any of the 102 Honda authorised dealerships nationwide or call Honda Malaysia’s Toll-Free number at 1-800-88-2020 or log onto www.honda.com.my or download the HondaTouch application.
