The battery powered I-Pace arrives just in time as Malaysians embrace premium EV’s.
Yes, finally the very popular in Europe all electric Jaguar I-Pace is coming to Malaysian showrooms and at the right time as the Malaysian government has removed all import duties and also road tax fees on electric cars.
With our current high import duties on all vehicles, this tax-free electric car incentive will promote the sales of new electric cars in Malaysia and ‘jump start’ the move to emission free mobility (however, the charging infrastructure is still heavily dependent on coal powered stations and this remains an issue).
Still, it is a move in the right direction and car manufacturers are starting to introduce their electric powered models to Malaysians and it started with almost after the tax free announcement was made.
This is why we have just found out and sharing the news of the arrival of the Jaguar I-Pace electric crossover. The I-Pace has already seen sales success in Europe.
In January this year, 2021, Jaguar Land Rover announced the 2020 sales success of the I-Pace with 7,807 unit sold globally which was 27.8 percent rise over the previous year.
This multiple award winning vehicles took an unprecedented three titles at the 2019 World Car of the Year awards, which were, World Car of the Year, World Car Design of the Year and the World Green Car.
With a state-of-the-art 90kWh Lithium-ion battery using 432 pouch cells, the I-Pace delivers a range of 480km (WLTP cycle). Owners will be able to achieve a 0-80 per cent battery charge in just 40 minutes using DC rapid charging (100kW). Home charging with an AC wall box (7kW) will achieve the same state of charge in just over ten hours which is ideal for overnight charging.
A suite of smart range-optimizing technologies includes a battery pre-conditioning system: when plugged in the Jaguar I-Pace will automatically raise (or lower) the temperature of its battery to maximize range ahead of driving away.
Two Jaguar-designed electric motors which feature drive-shafts passing through the motors themselves for compactness are placed at each axle, producing exceptional combined performance of 400PS and 696Nm and all-wheel-drive, all-surface traction.
The high torque density and high-energy efficiency characteristics of the motors deliver sports car performance, launching the I-Pace from a standing start to 100km/h in just 4.8 seconds. The instantaneous performance is matched with exceptional ride comfort and engaging driving dynamics.
So what will be the selling price of the I-Pace in Malaysia. Well, the British showroom price is 65,245 pounds sterling (which is about RM367,000). So expect a selling price in Malaysia to be just below RM399,000.
This means, the I-Pace will compete directly with the BMW iX3 which is open for booking at RM336,000 and the Mercedes EQA Crossover which will be arriving very soon at a similar price.
