This partnership aims to provide enhanced security, safer work environment and improved operational efficiencies
As part of its efforts to develop Proton City as a model smart city through state-of-the-art tools and systems, Proton has announced that it will partner with telecommunication giant Maxis to deploy a 5G use case at the national automaker’s manufacturing plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak.
According to Proton, the use case comprises multiple converged IoT (Internet of Things) solutions including Smart Security systems and an Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality remote support and maintenance. As the name implies, Smart Security enables Proton to track and ensure the security of cars that roll off the production line.
Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality, on the other hand, makes it possible for Proton engineers to communicate with their international partners in real time to troubleshoot technical issues.
On top of these, the implementation of 5G technology would also allow Proton to extend its research and development in Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X) technology, which is one of the key elements in autonomous vehicles.
PRESS RELEASE
National car maker PROTON has selected Maxis as its partner to deploy a 5G use case comprising multiple converged solutions to power up its Tanjung Malim plant, with network installations beginning October. The partnership is part of PROTON’s growth strategy in developing Proton City as a model smart city through state-of-the-art tools and systems, as well as Maxis’ commitment to delivering the best 5G innovation and solutions for enterprises.
The use case will rely on a purpose-built 5G network and Maxis will manage the end-to-end services for several IoT solutions at Proton’s manufacturing headquarters in Tanjung Malim, Perak. The solutions include Smart Security systems to track and ensure the security of cars that roll off the production line and an Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality remote support and maintenance system that enables PROTON engineers to communicate with their international partners in real time, to troubleshoot technical issues and ensure production quality.
“As the nation’s premier automotive brand, PROTON continues to look into emerging technologies that fit our tagline of Inspiring Connections to advance our expertise and deliver value to our customers. Implementing 5G tech at our main plant is an important step in our growth strategy. Through this strategic partnership with Maxis, we look forward to unlocking opportunities that can translate into enhanced security, a safer environment, improved efficiencies, and ultimately, build better quality cars,” said Dr Li Chunrong, Chief Executive Officer of PROTON.
“Maxis is proud to be selected as a technology partner to provide this important 5G use case for the nation’s pride of the automotive industry.
