Big Chinese car manufacturer, Great Wall Motor is about to open an office in Malaysia.
We have just learnt that Great Wall Motor will be starting up business in Malaysia. Well, more like opening an office to handle public relations and marketing for the brand. There are already job postings appearing for a few key positions for Great Wall Motor Malaysia.
Meanwhile, the current distributor and brand guardian, Go Auto Sales Sdn Bhd will continue to do sales, after sales and distribution as Great Wall Motor takes a keen interest to launch more models, especially their electric vehicles and also their new SUV’s which have already seen sales success in neighboring Thailand.
Great Wall Motor (GWM) has been moving across ASEAN quietly in the past year, starting with Thailand and in August 2021 they started operations in Brunei.
GWM entered Brunei by rolling out a local pre-sale for two models, which was the 3rd Generation HAVAL H6 and the HAVAL JOLION.
Assembled at its plant in Rayong, Thailand, the HAVAL JOLION has a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that is mated to a single electric motor and a wet-type dual-clutch Direct Hybrid Transmission (DHT) that drives the front wheels. Although mechanically similar, the hybrid powertrain generates 190hp and 375 Nm in this application.
Where as the 3rd Generation HAVAL H6 is an SUV that is built on GWM LEMON platform, which is an intelligent and internationally recognized modular technology platform.
The H6 Hybrid comes with a new engine that delivers a maximum torque of 325 Nm and intelligent drive system, achieving high efficiency, low fuel consumption, safe driving, and high-performance bringing users a more passionate driving experience.
Meanwhile, the earlier launched in Thailand HAVAL H6 Hybrid SUV recorded a healthy 34.3 percent compact SUV market share in Thailand and the number 1 spot for SUV sales.
However, the biggest news for GWM in Thailand has to be the launch of the ORA Good Cat 100 percent electric car. Earlier this month GWM Thailand hosted the delivery ceremony of ORA Good Cat to the first batch of Thai customers at Lido Connect, Siam Square. GWM executives led by Steven Wang, Vice President of Great Wall Motor ASEAN and Thailand, and Narong Sritalayon, Managing Director of Great Wall Motor Thailand celebrated the delivery to the first 11 Thai customers on 11th November 2021.
The ORA Good Cat was spotted in Malaysia months ago and since then there has been little information shared by local brand guardian, Go Auto on its launch date and selling price.
Maybe, the newly set-up GWM Malaysia will be involved in the launch and selling price. We will wait patiently for this launch.
