The 2021 Jaguar XF Engineering Team Interview Shared

There is more to the new Jaguar XF that meets the eye.

The current Jaguar XF arrived in Malaysia in April 2016 and it was a direct rival to the popular BMW 5 Series, Audi A6, Lexus ES and Mercedes E-Class. Fully imported, this XF was made available in two variants, the XF Prestige and XF R-Sport.  They were priced from RM450,000 for the Prestige and RM460,000 for the R-Sport.

With BMW and Mercedes-Benz having local assembly in Malaysia, their import tax was reduced and so their selling prices were much lower giving them a huge sales advantage over this fully imported Jaguar.

This is why today you see only a handful on our roads and in the used market as well.

Here now is the latest 2021 model of the XF and it is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine that comes in two power outputs, 250PS and 300PS.

The 250PS variant produces 365Nm of torque, delivering 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds and CO2 emissions from 170g/km with fuel economy of up to 7.3L/100km for the XF RWD model.

The high-powered 300PS engine produces 400Nm of torque and is exclusively paired to an all-wheel drive system for enhanced traction. The engine features a range of advanced technologies and is capable of 0-100km/h in 6.1 seconds.

The innovative Continuously Variable Valve Lift (CVVL) system reduces pumping losses by electro- hydraulically varying inlet valve lift. Together with variable cam timing, this allows the engine to breathe with maximum efficiency throughout its entire operating range, optimising power, torque, fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions.

PRESS RELEASE INTERVIEWS: Julian Thomson, Design Director, Jaguar said: “The exterior design of the 2021 new Jaguar XF represents a significant change. We have comprehensively updated both the Saloon and the stylish Sportbrake to give them a more poised presence. Throughout the process, we concentrated on providing a heightened sense of luxury and technology across the exterior.”

Adam Hatton, Exterior Design Director, Jaguar, said: “The significant new elements of the XF create a more dynamic stance for the car, but the small details are just as important.

Bringing the heritage- inspired detailing to the grille and headlights adds that touch of depth and luxury with a link to Jaguar’s unparalleled past, while the Leaper emblem on the side vents is instantly recognizable and provides an added visual flourish.”

Julian Thomson, Design Director, Jaguar, said: The luxurious all-new interior of the XF delivers a calming sense of occasion every time you step into it. From its driver focused cockpit to the enhanced tactility, comfort and convenience, the interior has been fully transformed.”

Alister Whelan, Interior Design Director, Jaguar, said: “We’ve taken a fresh approach to the new XF interior. Like all Jaguar’s, XF is built up from the very best fundamentals – a sporty yet comfortable seating position with intuitive controls.

These solid foundations allowed us to rigorously focus on raising the level of luxury, detailing and the seamless integration of our advanced technologies. From the cricket-ball stitching on the Drive Selector to the curved-glass touchscreen, every aspect of the interior is beautifully designed and executed.”

New front seats offer wider cushioning plus larger heated and cooling areas for enhanced comfort. Heightened attention to detail is provided by an embossed Jaguar Leaper on the headrests while ‘Est.1935 Jaguar Coventry’ upholstery tags reference the rich history of the brand.

Colin Kirkpatrick, Chief Product Engineer, Jaguar, said: The new XF has a more focused powertrain range featuring the latest advanced technologies, across both Saloon and Sportbrake models for exceptional performance, improved efficiency and enhanced refinement.

Whether drivers want a next generation diesel for covering long distances or a smooth and engaging petrol powertrain, our range of ingenium engines provide great customer choice.”

Mike Cross, Chief Engineer, Jaguar, said: “The renowned dynamic abilities of the XF have been taken to the next level to ensure it remains as responsive as it is engaging.

In addition, we have done a huge amount of work to enhance the comfort levels for all occupants with reduced cabin noise and more refined engines to make the car even quieter”.
