There is news circulating that Mercedes AMG has agreed to purchase a minority position in motorcycle manufacturer MV Augusta. The amount of ownership is likely to be around 20% of the company. Confirmation of this will be announced at the upcoming EICMA show in Milan, Italy.
The deal shouldn’t see too much involvement from Mercedes-AMG in the affairs of MV Agusta, however the stock purchase will certainly put some much need capital in the Italian motorcycle company’s coffers.
That’s not to say that Mercedes-AMG won’t benefit as well, as the move not only helps Mercedes keep up with rivals BMW who have a strong motorcycle division and Audi who acquired Ducati and is benefiting from it since last year. This partnership will also help offset the production of the AMG-badged performance cars, under Europe’s CAFE-like corporate-wide emission standards.
