MyTukar Or Carsome Who Paid The Highest For This 1.8L Civic

This Honda Civic owner had never heard of both platforms until we spoke to her.

Here is a 2017 model one owner, low mileage Honda Civic 1.8L which has never even been in a minor fender bender or a traffic mishap. The owner had decided a few months ago to get an upgrade and of course it had to be a new premium SUV.

After speaking to the owner to NOT hand in her car to a used car dealer like most car owners do, we managed to convince this very busy rising corporate star to take a short break and use her smartphone to get Carsome.my and MyTukar.com to come over, inspect her Honda Civic and offer a decent price over the used car dealers offer.

So, how much did the used car dealer offer her. Well the offer was RM70,000 and he claimed that that is the best offer and he would be only making a ‘small fee’ in selling her car in this ‘tough’ market conditions.

Now, it is a well known fact that any used Honda Civic model will be quick to sell (especially a well looked after unit like this one) and getting a high profit will be very easy. Launched in June 2016, this 1.8L Civic was priced at RM113,800 and resale values for Civic’s are very good in Malaysia.

After contacting Carsome online, they set an inspection date a few days later.  After a detailed inspection they offered the owner only RM71,000. So it was time to call in the rival, MyTukar.com. They came, inspected the car and offered RM72,000 flat. So, we encouraged the Civic owner to call Carsome back to see if a better offer could be put on the table. After a few days an offer of RM76,000 came from Carsome.

They must have found a ready buyer and so the Civic owner seeking our advice confirmed the sale with Carsome as MyTukar was not willing to budge on their RM72,000 offer.

Now here is a situation where unaware car owners who are busy earning a living and have little time to seek advice from www.dsf.my might lose as much as RM6,000 on their car sale. In this economy that is almost 8.0 percent of the value of their car.

Think about it, the used car dealer could have taken her car at RM70k and sold it to Carsome and made a quick RM6,000 without any issue.

This shows how the used car market has been enriching many dealers with silly margins (much better profit margins over new car sales) over the many years that they have been in business.

It is also great that we have two online classifieds battling for market leadership which benefits car sellers and buyers.
